Why not a 2wd?

Your magazine is great!  It had a good balance of off-road vehicles.  I would like to see a tire shoot out in the 42" to 49" range.  I would also like to see more lifted 2wd trucks going through mud boggs.  I am tired of the false stigma that has been created about the capabilities of a 2wd truck.  I just happen to own a 2000 Chevy C3500 flatbed with an 11" suspension lift, 3" body lift, Detroit locker and 42/15-16.5 superswampers and i make it go anywhere that a 4wd can go.  I would also like to see a tech article on the advantages and disadvantages of building a 2wd truck for mud boggs.  Ex- my truck has 32" of ground clearance and 11" at the bottom of the diff that will soon be fixed with a unimog rear end.  Full coverage insurance is only $48 a month!  I would like to see a 2wd project truck that's built for going off road and not a pre runner. Then put it up against 4wd trucks to see how well it does.  I know that your mag is a 4wd one but all of the other mags that have lifted 2wd trucks cater to posers.  I need your help!  I have been shunned by off road clubs.  My truck is not for looks.  I take it out as often as possible (when I am not deployed).  I have even tipped it on it's side a couple of times.  Will you please help me?

I have a 2wd toyota Tacoma with 33s and I take it everywhere.  I wish that there were more articles on 2wd off road trucks,  but not X-runners I am tired of them, I would like to see more articles about 2wd trucks built for the mud.  I would really like to see how a 2wd truck would do in the top truck challange!  Now that would be worth putting in your magazine!  As for tires I would like to see a tire shootout that would include off road traction, how they do in the deep mud, ability to withstand punctures,  and mileage.  I would like to see Superswampers,  Boggers,  BF Goodrench,  Pro Comps,  Mickey Thompsons, and some cheep no name mud tires in the shoot out against each other.  Other than that you have been doing a great job.

This is true, I am quite irrate at seeing such magazines being so biased to the so called, "LESSER BEINGS".  LegereB has a great opinion, everyone needs to speak up and help the "Little Guys"  or "2 wheel drive trucks."  Your magazine, now that LegereB has mentioned it, really doesnt show much recognition for 2 wheel drive trucks.  I know it takes skill to maneuver a 2 wheel truck through some of those tough "4 wheel Truck" mudholes, and you should recognize their achievements.  The way I figure, using a 4 wheel truck is kinda like using training wheels on your bike.  If you want to graduate off those training wheels, take em off and grab yourself a nice 2 wheel drive monster!!!!!

I have no idea what that jerk Hellfyre is saying, he seems like he just got out of Junior High or something, but I agree with you!  There needs to be more coverage on 2wd trucks.  Good Job Bro!!!!

Ken.

Hmm, your magazine title is 4 Wheel and Off Road....good title, but your magazine has massive ungodly coverage on 4 wheels, but no 2 wheel drive trucks.  Last i checked, they would be covered under the "OFF ROAD" portion of your title.  What gives?  I went to a mudbog at Funston Speedway and saw a flatbed 2wd chevy truck get 8th place out of 14 trucks.  I know that 8th place isnt 1st or 2nd, but heck, it obviously did better than about half the trucks out there.

Did you do a gear swap? 42 inchers sound huge for a 2wd. (cool!) I noticed it was a 2000. If you did a gear swap, did you have to do anything with the computer to get the speedometer and odometer to read correctly again?

If you put your truck up against a 4wd truck on 42's, you would get worked over in every way possible. Im not saying prerunning isnt cool, you just dont have all the advantages, only 2 tires providing motivation, no low range, limited aftermarket support... plus it must have cost you a  huge chunk of change to get it up that high. While it would be nice to see more 2wd trucks in the mag, it is not fare to compare them to 4wd trucks.

I enter my truck in mud boggs all the time and have never gotten last place.  I always end up mid pack and I go up against 4wd with 44" boggers and go about the same distance if not farther.  The lift wasn't too expensive, all I did was buy the Fabtech 7.5" ultimate travel kit and used 3.5" spring spacers in the front and fliped my rear shackles along with a 5" block in the back.  The 32" ground clearance more than makes up for not having 4wd.  I have never had any reason to have a low range, my truck does just fine without it.

I have 5.13 in it.  I don't bother using the speedomiter.  But evreybody seems to go about 55 to 60 on the highway (in a 70MMPH zone) when I drive my truck

I have seen a lot of sweet 2wd trucks in my day.  I'm not sure why it is just the flashy poser 2wd trucks that are featured in magazines.  2wd are just as capable in the mud as their 4wd counterparts.  The name of the magazie is 4wheel & off road but it is time for a little parity.  I think a good first step in this direction would be to allow 2wd trucks in your upcoming top truck challenge

Ever got first place in a mud bog competition?...................No? Can you guess why? because you have 2wd!

and as for crunnels you need to watch your mouth. you would get your ass kicked so hard if you tried run your truck in the top truck challenge.
