Never heard how a Raptor sounds on a Dakota, but I have a Flowtech Terminator muffler on my 98' Ranger that has a V-6 and it sounds pretty good.

It almost sounds like it has a V-8 in it.

The prices have dropped on the Terminators.

When I first bought one for my S-10 pickup about 8 years ago, I paid $50.00 for it.

I bought one for my Ranger pickup last year and the price dropped to $34.00 and I purchased it from the same place. ( Pep Boys )

That's pretty cheap for a quality made muffler. You would be lucky if you could find an OEM muffler for that price or cheaper.

Fifty dollars really isn't that bad of a price for the Terminater, but $34.00 is even better. The muffler is made from heavy gauge aluminized steel and most likely will outlast the rest of the exhaust system and maybe the vehicle that you put it on.

You really have to tighten the crap out of the exhaust clamp to get it to seal up. That's how thick the muffler and the inlet and outlets are. Instead of rolled edges found on most mufflers, this one is all welded. I've never seen a muffler that was made so well and weighed so much.

Let me know how the Raptor sounds after you get it installed.

I found one hell of a deal with the exhaust. put all new pipe on it from the manifolds straight to the muffler for $50.00. The raptor sounds better than it did but dont buy it for a v6. Im probably going to get the terminater, it just has to sound good for me to drive it.

When I bought the Terminater for the '84 S-10, I removed the cat. and replaced it with a regular piece of straight pipe. This is when the truck really sounded great. I had so many people ask me if I had a V-8 in it. I would just screw around with them and tell them I had a 350 small block in it.

The truck ran so much better with the Flowtech Terminater muffer with 2 1/4" exhaust pipe.

It ran so much better, the difference was like night and day.

This is why I bought one for the Ranger, but I still have my two cats. on the truck.

I straight piped the cat too. It has a nice sound to it just nothing to jump for joy over. Im not going to spend more money on the dakota beause I got my Ford to work on know. it needs a lot of help.

I haven't removed my cats. for two reasons. One reason is because of the O2-sensor behind the cat. If I could find one of those (eliminaters) that gives the computer a false signal saying everything is alright, that would be nice.

I've seen them before in the Summit catalog for Ford Mustangs, but thats it. The ( eliminater) may work the same on the Ranger as it does on the Mustang since its still Ford, but I'm not too sure.

The other reason is how the exhaust is designed where the Y-pipe connects to the single exhaust. It is shaped oval instead of being round and downward on the pipe it has a bend in it.

This would make it very tricky to fabricate since I would have to do this on my own.

There is one last reason not to do it. The exhaust would pollute the air much more and I would have to deal with that stinky smell, just like an old, old truck that never came with a cat.

When I took off my cats, I just cut off the o2-sensor. I unplugged it and drove it first to see if it made a difference and it didnt do anything so I just got rid of it. The truck also doesnt smell when you drive without the cat, it makes a difference in gas though.

What year is the truck that you took the cat. off of?

Did the check engine light come on with the O2-sensor unplugged?

When I took the cat. off of my '84 S-10, the exhaust smelled like *** That's one of the reasons why they use cats. today, and of course to clean up the air that we breath. I'm sure you know that.

I thought of going to a junkyard and find the whole two cats. from where it connects to the Y-pipe and where it connects to the next pipe down from the cats.,then take something to hollow out the cats.

That way it looks legal.

I have a 98 Dakota. The check engine light was already on but I didnt see any difference in the way it drives or runs and still dont.

Hollowing out the cats is a great idea so it looks legal. I was going to do the same thing. I just didnt want to do all the extra work.

I dont know if it this is state law or not, but in michigan I know you dont need cats if the vehicle is 10 years or older. I still got one more year for the dakota but I didnt care.

In my state of Maryland its illegal to remove the cats.

This is why I thought of going to a junkyard to get the other two cats. and to hollow them out. When its time two take my emmisions test, I would just put on my original ( legal ) cats. to get it through inspection just to be on the safe side. In MD. you have to have the emmisions test done every two years.

Some vehicles get the tailpipe test, while some others get the treadmill test and tailpipe test. Another test that they give is they go to the diagnostic port where they hook up the computer to your vehicle. As long as your check engine light isn't on and its showing no codes, you pass the emmisions test. It all depends on the year of vehicle that you have. This is the test that my truck gets.

They also use mirrors with a handle on it to look under the vehicle to make sure the cats. are in place and the exhaust is in good condition.

They dont do any of that in Michigan that I know of. I have never taken an emmissions test on any of my cars. I know the car or truck cant be too loud, but the cops dont push that at all. There is alot of people that run open headers on there cars and have no problem with the cops. Thats probably why Michigan is so screwed up. I hate this state.
