How long will the dodge cummins run for? What is the life expectancy of cummins? should one worry about buying one with 100,00 + if the rest of the truck is in good shape?

Maintained the cummins can go well over 300k miles. There is even a million mile cummins on the road. At 100k miles the motor is just getting broke in. Have had my 98 24v for a year, and a half w/ no problems. Put close to 30k on it in that year. Pushing 200k, and no problems.

Go to www.dieselram.com . A good knowledgable group of people on that forum who can tell you all you need to know about the dodge cummins. The only thing to look out for when buying is the 53 block. The vp44 injection pump on some models to, but that is a easy fix w/ a fuel pressure guage, an aftermarket lift pump like the fass system. I chose the dodge because I didn't like the cheveys ifs, and the fords have had a lot more ISBs than the other two. Stay away from the ford 6.0 powerstrokes. The cummins also is the easiest to work on out of the big three diesel motors, and is more excepting of power up grades. Happy truck hunting.
