i need help. my 350 in my 1984 K10 blazer is too strong for my trans. i have talked to local off-road shops and other fellow offroaders and they have recommended that i switch my truck over to a SM465 transmission along with running Dana 60's.  Right now i have dana 44 front with 12bolt rear, both have 3.73 gearing.  Can any of yall help me out here on how i should go about doing this, or should i just replace my trans and wait for it to go out again.  Right now my truck has 11" lift and 35" tires.  I am going to run 40"-44" tires, but im not quite sure yet.  anyway, please help me out.

You are killing you auto trans with 3.73 gears! All the load is being but back on the trans due to inadequate axle gears.

IF you are going to 40" plus tires, you had better get some 5.13's in those pumpkins (in the new dana 60's you mentioned).

There is no way your 350 is killing a TH400 unless your motor is running on nothing but nitro-methane 40lbs blower boost.

Junkyards, most dont keep running inventories. You need to research what trucks came with a D60 front (most 1 tons) and get looking. Most will require a rebuild and brakes, which is no big deal, becasue you are going to have to swap gears for tires that size anyhow. A rear axle shouldnt be too hard to find, a GM corp 14bolt full floater has been crammed under most GM 1 tons (and some 3/4 tonnes) for the better part of 2 decades.

If you have a 700r4 (gms early overdrive for trucks) then it is possibile to blow that up with just a 305 if you got on it hard. But you should have no issues with the th350 or th400 holding up to ANY power a 350 puts out, any! 3.73 shouldnt be too bad on the tranny with 35s so either your tranny wasnt serviced or is just a weak 700r4. My suggestion is to swap in a 350 or 400 and save the headache of converting you whole truck over to a manuel.

sometimes their right ur going to get a headache changing to a manual tranny. but if u want pulling power  add 5.13 gears and a top loader 4spd and omg hold on ur going to pull a house. i do stump pulling with 5.38 gears in a dana 60 and gm14 bolt rear with full posi's
