usually theres an adaptor plate between the transmission and transfer cases that supports the rear of the transmission and trasfercase that is bolted to the crossmember. either you broke sum bolts, stripped threads, or broke the adatopr plate. you would have to look at it when you pull it apart.  i have the same model of truck but i have an automatic with the np205(part time).  the plate bolts to the tailshaft of the transmission with 4 bolts(on the automatic). the transfer case (in your case im guessin the part time unit) has either 6 or 8 bolts holding it to the adaptor that need to be removed to separate. when removing get some help because this is really heavy transfer case made from iron.  you now can see the back side of the adaptor plate. if its cracked i would search a junkyard or look around online for a new one. if theres broken or stripped bolts you might have some problems with those. hope that helps some.

i broke the same adapter that your talking about on my 1972 3/4 ton chevy 402ci....manual...NP205. If you broke this part, then i feel bad for you because I looked in about 20 different junk yards...called any and all adapter companies in Petersens 4 wheel mag. and had no luck at all. I ended up getting one from my local Chevrolet Dealership, which was the last thing i wanted to do, and aparently there are about 30 or 40 of these cast iron adapters just sitting in a warehouse that bought them all from chevrolet.  Unfortunately they cost anywhere from $300 to $400. But at least your problem will be fixed.

 GOODLUCK  and have safe wheelin'
