I am a member on the University of Michigan SAE Mini Baja team and have read the magazine for years on tips of how to build up my 93 YJ. I think there should be a story highlighting our Baja car or the SAE baja circuit.

Here is a bit of information about us:
SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) hosts a Mini Baja competition for colleges around the world.  There are three races in the United States (east, midwest, and west).  The three competitions have unique terrain, the east race is known for large spans of water, midwest is known for mud, and west is known for rocks.  The cars we build are about the size of go-carts and are built completely from scratch, frame up.  The teams are required to run a spec 10 horsepower engine from Briggs and Stratton, but my team has fine tuned our CVT transmission (custom secondary, Polaris primary) enough so that we can reach speeds of 40 mph on flat ground.  This year our competitions are in Ocala, Florida, Rapid City, South Dakota and Rochester, New York.

Once again, it would be awesome if Petersen's would do a story on us and would show what college kids can do outside of class...this is not a class, we all work on the car on our own time!

Feel free to contact me with questions or comments at jwwalk@umich.edu or visit drive.to/baja for our team website.

Editors and non-editors let me know what you think.  Also, we are always looking for sponsors, send me an email if interested.

Thanks,
