hey i have a 1992 Chevy K1500 Z71 truck.  I just put a new 350 motor in it.  it has a th700r4 trans.  it has a k&n air filter and it also has a catback dual exaust with resonator tips no muffler.  the truck has 3.42's in it and right now i have 235/75r15's on the older chevy rally rims.  when i need new tires would i be able to fit 32x10.50's on it? or should i just stick to 31's

ok i want some more power out of the truck and if i can a mpg er 2 out of it.  first i was thinking for the intake i would get one of those hypertech power chargers and one of those spacers for the injectors for some better airflow into the engine.  how much better would buying a new holley tbi be? probably not worth it?  would it be good to also get a new aluminum intake for the truck or not worth it?  i will probably get a new high output coil and probably a msd 6 offroad ignition box and new wires too.  i am also thinking about putting some headers and a matching y pipe and high flow cat converter on it too.  what else could i do thats fairly low bucks?

32's are not much of a difference so you might not notice even with the 3.42's.  That would be a great way to add some torque, or at least feel like you did. Go to a 4.10 ratio and you wont believe the difference it will make.  3.73's are ok, but if you ever go to anything above that 32" tire size you feel the lag on the especially on the highway with an OD tranny.

the holley 670 CFM TBI makes a noticable difference, but not that much more power. headers along with the TBI and new gearing, would be you best bang for your buck. It would feel like a different truck completely

i would go with new gearing not 4.10's because thats a little too low cauz half the driving i do is on the highway (daily driver) so if i did regear i would either just buy new gears and have it regeared or ill just regear the rear axle and find a used front gear housing with 3.73's and put that it as it would probably be easier than regearing one.  but gearing can take a good chunck out of my wallet so im sticking with the 3.42's and remember the stock tires are basically 31's

how about them tbi spacers? waste of money or is it almost worth the money? and the same with that new filter addapter thingy from hypertech?  and has anyone installed that injector riser plate? or should i just buy a new tbi unit instead of the riser plate?

people  get  worried about going to lower gears, but what they dont realize is that when they go to lower gears they almost always change tire size as well.  When you do that it is not going to feal like you have 4.10's. it will feal like 3.73's when you go to a 32" tire. remember the 32 is wider as well as taller.  most of those trucks came with 3.73's stock.  when you changed the tire size they felt like 3.42's anyway. A set of new gears would be by far cheaper than any engine mods that could compare in performance.  Im not trying to argue with you, you know your rig best. But gears are the last thing people look at most of the time and should be the first, when changing tire size.

ok guys im just toying around with the idea but what do you guys think about swapping out a th700r4 for like a nv4500 or a different manual trans.  i waz thinking of finding another truck similar to mine that has a manual n getting all the clutch linkage and stuff out of it and then getting everything else i need from advanced adapters like a belhousing, the transmission, and the trans-tcase adapter.  im bored driving around with an automatic and would like to shift for myself.  how hard would this task be i have a shop and quite a few tools and some friends that could help.   what else would i need/hafta do to make this work?

ORU carries a hybryd 14-bff with 6-bolt lugs so you can keep the rims you got on your half ton. Wheel selection range is a lot better with the 6-lug pattern. 4-Wor has an article on this mod called -
"The Ultimate 14-Bolt for Your ½-ton Truck".

ok heres an update of what all i have done so far i got the 31/12.50's and they got my spedo back on track and i got my charging problems fixed.  I got a hypertech powercharger and a msd coil and that woke the truck up some more along with taking the fuel presure regulator apart and i made it adjustable and cranked the pressure up a little.  the truck is not as sluggish anymore and i am getting better mileage due to a new o2 sensor.  now i am looking into a new true dual custom exhaust with an xpipe and 2" tubing with some summit headers and a new top end i found a donor truck with 3.73's its a 94 suburban but the only difference is that the transmission is electronic so this summer project might be swapping the axles around for the 3.73's and swapping the guage clusters

A six lug semi floating 14 bolt with a 9.5 ring came from the factory in certain truck in the 80's and 90's and its a direct bolt in, the only change needed is a u joint pn 447 by percision u joints. There is article on this site called i think true drop in 14 bolt

You can do all these little things to to your truck to get small gains in Hp here and there, but like Muddnutt said, your most noticable hp gain is going to be with the 4.10 gears front & rear.  4.10 is not a radical ratio that you're going to notice that much of a penalty with highway driving over 65 mph. If you went to 4.56 gears I might be a bit more concerned.
Another not very expensive hp gain would be to replace the stock cylinder heads with some fast burning heads like L31 Vortecs. You will also need a Vortec manifold - not all that more expensive at about $200.00 for parts ( for the manifold). That will gain you between 30-40 ponies too, but I would definitely go with the axle re-gearing first, personally.

Actually 235/75R15's measure about 28.5" diameter, a 30/9.50 measures about 29.5" diameter and 31/10.50 measures about 30.5" diameter, 235/85R16 measures 31.7" diameter.  So for gearing, 3.73 will work with 32" tires but slightly tall, 4.10 is good for 33" tires, 4.56 will be ok with 35" tires.  I know a guy here that has a 94 1500 silverado that through different stages ended up with 6" suspension lift, 3" body lift, 37" tires, 5.13 gears, built the engine to about 400 HP, gets about 8 mpg at best.  As far as the throttle body spacer; maybe on different engines it works better but on a TBI 350 Chevy I feel it is a waste of money.  I tried one on my gas powered 1 ton crew cab and was not impressed, it did change how it responded off idle but not worth the time and money.
