I have an '88 toyota pickup with a'89 5.0 already in it.  We used an Advanced Adapters kit and its great.  I am trying to put another small block in my '88 4runner, using Toyota Northwest's trani adapter.  I am trying to get around buying the pressure plate that they sell.  Please let me know if anyone has had any luck. Thanks so much.

This may be a question for the snowman, somewhere in the late 80s the went to a different bolt pattern, one piece seal and a counterweight on the flywheel.
If you were more like in the late 90s or 2K to present I would be more help with the engines. I went 5 cylinders myself with a 3.5 engine from a hummer H3 family 220HP 220TQ

MAKE IT SMOG LEGAL!!!

88 toyota truck 3.5 vortec engine swap, dual cases. A/C smog legal.
76 chevrolet 4 door 4X4 6.0 VORTEC v8 SM465 NP205
85 Chevrolet 4 door dually 5.3 VORTEC V8 4l65E
2002 Chevrolet SIVERADO LS2 supercharged 4l65E
ALL SMOG LEGAL and A/C baby!!!

The bolt pattern did not change on crank shaft but clearance for flywheel did. With a automatic is it not a issue but with a stick with one piece seal you need to use a flywheel designed for it. You can use new style flywheel with old seal but not new seal with old flywheel. I might add if it was me I would use a 4.3 as it is a easier fit and weighs less and warms up well and if you use a 94 or later 4.3 it has a internal balancer shaft the smooths out uneven fire 4.3 to be V8 like in smoothness. This is because a V6 needs 60 degree block to be even and 4.5 is a 90 degree 350 block with 2 cylinders looped off.
