HOW ABOUT SOME ADVICE. I HAVE A DANA 44 IN THE FRONT OF A 72 GMC JIMMY. I HAVE INSTALLED A "LOCK-RITE" WITH 4.10'S. THE TRUCK DROVE FINE AND STEERED FINE UNTIL I LOCKED IN THE FACTORY HUBS. NOW THE TRUCK WON'T TURN VERY SHARP EITHER DIRECTION. I ALSO CANNOT GET THE HUBS TO UNLOCK. I CAN UNLOCK THE TRANSFER, BUT HAVE HAD NO LUCK WITH THE HUBS. I AM SURE ALL THIS HAS TO DO WITH THE "LOCK-RITE". I AM ALSO SURE I COULD TAKE THE LOCK-OUTS OFF AND INSTALL THEM BACK UNLOCKED, AND THIS WOULD SOLVE MY STEERING ISSUE. I HAVE PURCHASED "WARN" LOCK-OUTS, BUT HAVE NOT INSTALLED THEM YET NOT KNOWING IF MY LOCK-OUT PROBLEM WILL STILL EXIST. AS FOR THE STEERING PROBLEM, WOULD A RAM STEERING DO THE TRICK, OR COULD IT DAMAGE SOMETHING ELSE DUE THE "FORCING" ISSUE? PERHAPS, AN AIR OR ELECTRIC LOCKER WOULD BE THE ANSWER? TAKE A GANDER AND LET ME KNOW THE BEST SOLUTION.
THANKS, RDW

my dad had lockers in his 84 toyota and said that when they were enganged you couldnt really accelerate and turn at same time, the truck would just hop across the road, try letting off the gas and then try to turn..how ever my dad had a detroit locker in the rear which is different then what you have.

the way a locker works is to make both tires turn at the same speed. in a turn one tire has to spin faster the the other to cover the extra ground. with ur hubs unlocked the front axle shafts both turn at the same time but the wheels are able to spin freely. when u locked in your huds it tied everythink together. when u turn the outer wheel is tring to keep up with the inner wheel. this will make steering very hard and long also makeing the inner wheel slip. a trick would be to unlock one hub when sharp corners where made. as far as not being able to unlock the huds could be do to binding.

i'd try backing up at least 20ft. to take the tension off your driveline that should take care of it if it don't sounds like your hubs might need greased. a dry hub will stick faster than snot
