Hey guys,
Yep, I'm a new guy to the 4 wheel scene soooo.. I have questions. :P Basically I've been seeing adds for retread tires and were wondering how they measure up to new tires.
Are they as good?.. are they safe? Basically I need to know all about them, as I was considering a set but wanted to know the pros and cons before I purchased ANYTHING.
Current toy: 1988 Cherokee w/ 4.0 and Command Trac, Auto tranny, recently got a 3 inch susp life from Rough Country.. and looking to buy many more bells and whistles.
Thanks in advance for all your help!! ![]()

Though we haven't tested any retreads in a while, it's something we are considering for the future. They are definitely cheaper, as you can see in the ads. We will let you know as soon as we get a chance to learn more.

Hey thanks for getting back to me there! I hope you guys DO more articles about these type of tires. Could you tell me if they are safe for normal day to day stuff and 4 wheeling at least?.. I know a lot of 18-wheelers run retreads exclusively, so I know they have to be somewhat safe for that.. but I am unsure about the off-road ones. Have any idea if they are capable?.. just a general guess? :P Thanks again!

i used to work in a retread factory for semi tires in terre haute, in. i have never herd any complaints from any of the 200 pluss custmers that bought them. yes they are saf as a new tire. and even if there is a problem with the tire like the tread comming off they will replace them if it is a defect with the tire. if you have any other ? write me back and ill do my best.

Yes retreads are safe. The problem with them is the fact that you are dealing with a casing that is older, who knows what kind of abuse the previous owner put them through. Secondly, these tires don't have the ability to flex like a new tire will. And finally, the biggest downfall to retreads is that they will build up a lot more heat than a new "virgin" tire will. The extra weight of these tires and the lowered air pressures of a lifted vehicle will just fan the fire so to speak.
