I would like to put a built Chevy 350 motor in a CJ5. I need to know if a '77 Chevy M22(Muncie) out of an old dump truck will fit under the jeep? The tranny was origanally mated to a Chevy 350 block. If so then what transfer case should I use? I was thinking along the lines of an Atlas II or NP241. Any help would be greatly appreiciated.

I'm not exactly sure about the tranny type (exactly what it is, or how comparable to a SM420 etc.) to offer any solid advice, but just about anything will fit under a Jeep depending on your willingness to put on a body lift or modifying the transmission hump or lowering the transmission if required etc. Advance Adapters (they sell the Atlas you referred to which is the hot ticket over the 241) or Novak enterprises make an adapter for a Clark 5-speed, which is a very super wammy transmission that was used in dumptrucks, (I have worked on a F-600 firetruck with one in it. It is very big for comparison to your Chevy dumptruck). They may be able to tell you the dimensions as well as if it is a reasonable swap. The problem may be a driveline length issue in a CJ-5, but that all depends on if you move your engine forward and your type and size of your lift if any. Some factory T-18's can cause a driveline problem, even with a CV joint, in the stock location with a suspension lift usually more than 3". But this is in stock locations, it all really depends on how far you want to modify things to make it work. GOOD LUCK!

the m-22 you mentioned is a great tranny and if its form a dumptruck it is probably geared well for off road use the only problem i forsee would be the clearences but it can be done i have a friend who did a similar swap you will most likely have to fabricate the new tranny crossmenber but it shouldnt be to hard if you are willing to put a little time and effort into it and as long as you have the space to do it
