i have a 1985 cj7 with a 304 with about 300 horse and a torqueflight 999 auto trans i have a 4 inch suspension lift and a 1 inch shackle. i am running 33 in bfg's i am wanting to run 35's i had a spring over on my old jeep but didnt like the top heaviness so im thinking of a body lift maybe 2-3 inch to clear the 35's what will i need to lengthen to make it work? i already have long braided brake lines im pretty sure the gas tank will reach im not so sure about the linkage on the auto though and what else do i need to extend or watch for

Hey dude, have you tried some 35's? Maybe a friend has some on their Jeep that you can try. Usually you can fit 35's with a 4 inch suspension lift alone (depending on brand, if it is still in good shape, and not sagged out). Some minor fender and body trimming may be neccesary, but some people are not into that. If you do go with a body lift, a one inch should be enough. M.O.R.E. Offroad sells a very nice solid aluminum puck that is a lot stronger that the honeycomb carbon fiber kits, and Daystar sells a body mount replacement kit with one inch already built in. I run a spring under 4", Revolver shackles and the Daystar kit with the M.O.R.E. 1" puck and have ample room for my 37's. (although I did trim the front fenders as well as the rear and am considering 38's now) You do have to adjust your steering colume (super simple, the directions are really straight forward) or if you have a custom steering shaft like the one from Flaming River, it will compensate for the additional lift. As far as your automatic, if you have the stock colume shift then you should have enough adjustment on your slide rod. Anything taller on your body lift and you may have to fabricate a longer one or find one possibly off of a fullsize Wagoneer or Cherokee etc. I think the first step would be find some 35's on wheels that will bolt on to your Jeep and then actually cycle the suspension to see exactly what you need to clear. Different offset wheels and wheel width will also have some effect on body to tire clearance. Hope this helps and WHEEL ON DUDE!
