OK in a previous discussion it seems that most of you want to see a V-8 in the Tube Buggy.  Now what tranny would you vote on?

An automatic would seem appropriate so vote on the following, or make another suggestion

TH-350 three speed and cheap

TH-400 three speed and strong

700R4 automatic, but not as strong, or quite strong, but only after some money has been thrown at it

The 700R4 with its low first gear and overdrive would be usefull on the trail and the highway.

I like the turbo 400.  It's a pretty stout transmission right from the factory.  you could save money by getting one from a wrecking yard, but it would probably need rebuilt anyway.  The low first gear of the 700r4 would be good but i don't think its as strong as the turbo 400.  Overdrive would be nice too if you got low gears but, I haven't seen many tube frame buggy's on the highway.  Not street legal maybe, hate to get pulled over on your way to the trails cause you have no blinkers or something!   My 2 cents.

I think that the th350 is a very good trans. and the th400 is a little tougher. The 700r4 has a very good potential but stock it still good. The overdrive is cool, and the first gear is noticably lower. I live in Nanaimo BC and have a 700r4 for sale.(sdgaskin@shaw.ca)

my personal would be the th350.for these reasons-

1-cheap to buy

2-cheap to rebuild

3-plentiful

4-anybody can rebuild it

5-its shorter length

6-many aftermarket hard parts like lower gears, clutches, valvebodies etc

7-lightness(ever changed one on the trail or side of the road before?)

im about to drop 1 into my toyota with a efi 350 here sooner then later and have them in my other 3 trucks as well.

my 02 cents
