what do you want the truck to be. do you want a mild lift and 33's or are you thinking of going #### crazy with 44's? realisticly what will you be wheeling in? all these things affect what you should do. if ya just want something small that truck should work fine. but if you want something big forget it. and look for a 73-86 chevy with a big block just because parts are cheap easy to find

I had a '90 F-250 with a 7.3 diesel and 35's and i did have to replace the pumpkin once during the 2 years I had it.  Although the truck you're looking at isn't a diesel so the front end is a lot lighter.  I beat my truck pretty bad which probably helped lead to the breakage, but personally i think that that front end is crap.  I'd definately do a solid axle swap, and if you're going bigger than 35's, do a dana 60 and not 44 swap.

You need to buy a lot of parts and do some fabrication to do a solid axle swap, since it usually requires a totally different steering system. Likely a solid axle swap will be over $5000. You probably would prefer to stick with the twin I beams...

At least the Ford IFS pre-1997 lift kits are cheaper than the lifts for all the new trucks... If I was in your situation, I'd go for 33" or 35" mud tires of some kind and a 4-6 inch lift. Maybe an auto-locker in the rear...

Will you be doing much highway driving? Will you need to be able to go over 70 mph? Will you be putting a lot of onroad mileage on it, like 10,000 plus miles a year?
