i had a email sent to me today about a 70's stepside chevy and how to basicly build it up.

ok where should i start?

tires : set of 38inch super swamper tsls

ok i think you have a dana 44 in your truck. or a 10bolt im not sure if you are looking to drive this on the road you can get away with having 38s for a wile

but if you wanta wheel your gona need a dana 60F thats gona cost you about 500-1000 dollers for a start make sure you know what your buying before you get it. dont get another dana 44.

for the rearend i would put a dana 60 or a corporate 14 bolt as i never ran a dana 60R the 14 bolt if its a corporate you will never brake it with 38s we have been running a 14 with 44s and its never had a problem.. we broke 3 front shafts so i know its getting used hard i have heard that the 60 has better clearance but what ever you get your hands on will be just fine

you need a 4:10 or better 4:56 in your axles you cant really get cheap gearing anyother way

transfercase... i would run your NP203 or 205 anything will be fine as long as you have some gearing in low range... if its a 203 dont beat it the 205 is a stronger unit

motor wise i would keep what you have im guessing its an 8 cly.

there are so many little things i want to say but i dont feel like typing so good luck read about everything you can

also if you dint fix your frame by the steering box you need to do that it will brake lose and you will only be able to turn one way... its easy to fix really just weld it up and put some plates on it your stock box might be a bit under powered for the 38s but thats another day your box will last a few months
