My Dad gave me this truck about a year ago, and i am interested in getting up in the sky, rolling on 40's, and putting a front axle on it, but first i need to get it modded to 4wheel drive... Is that even possible to do with this truck? And is there such thing as a cheap full rollcage(inner and exo)? I am only 15 and i know how to weld, but my school shop won't let  me weld on a car/truck! maybe i can just do it in my driveway(thats where everybody else does it right?)

yes it is possible to put a front axle and tcase on your truck.  However you could sell that truck and have almost enough money to buy a 4x4 and save yourself alot of time and money.  To run 40s and do any real off roading you will need 1tons axles.. or go VERY easy on a set of 3/4 ton axles but that would be pushing it.  It depends alot on what you want to do with this truck.. I am assuming mud? correct? Read up on as much material as you can, which should include all the available message boards.. this one is a decent place to start but you may also look at www.coloradok5.com (some of these guys are hardcore, and dont get offended if they try to set you straight)... www.pirate4x4.com (same as above).. a more user friendly board is www.67-72chevytrucks.com (they have a very active 73-87 board as well as a 4x4 board).  I am sure you can weld on some stuff, but if you plan to drive this truck on the street you better make sure you can weld damn well, because your life as well as the life of the people around you depends on it.

thanks for the help, i can weld very well... and no i don't want to mud it... i love tight technical slow running on rocks at practically 90degree angles, i wasn't completely sure about tonage on my axles... but i actually have a pair of 1.5 tons in my back yard that i was going to use...what transfer case would you recomend? i have a 454 with a 4barrel demon carb... should i supercharge it for my street driving?

what tire in paticular would your recomend also?

No i wouldnt supercharge it.. the 1.5ton axles maybe over kill and may not be good if you are wanting a rock crawler.. as they may cause clearance issues... as far as tires, it depends on the size you are wanting to run, but Iroks seem to be fairly decent or you could always go with boggers..

Boggers aren't great in rocks, I would go with Iroks or tsl's if you want an interco tire. Its gonna be really hard to keep your fenders, fit 40's and get the flex you want for rocks. What 1.5 ton axles do you have, you mean 2.5? As fare as t-cases since you already have a 2wd tranny, it may be worth looking into a divorce mounted 205, 200, whatever you can find. The only downside to taht is your front d-shaft will be more open to rocks, what tranny do you have. If you want a married t-case you will most likely have to swap out at the very least, tailshaft and the output.
