Also posted above in the wrong category by accident. oops
I recently bought a 4X4 truck that has an NP205 transfer case. Yesterday was the season's first snow and when I wanted the 4wd I couldn't shift the transfer case out of 2 Hi ! Now before I go tearing my transfer case apart, does anyone have any similar experiences or thoughts on the reason the shifter won't budge? Thanks in advance

Is the transfer case a push botton or manual shift.? if push button your probly in for a new actuator motor. and if its manual check the linkages and make sure there not seized up, if they dont get greased they can seize.

it's an 87 chevy pu with a TH400, so it has a manual shifter. Thanks for the advice. Hopefully it will turn out to be something like a seized linkage and not a serious internal problem.

Climb under that bad boy with a pry bar and try to pop out the linkage. Sometimes the shafts jam up if your linkage is loose. A light tap from a hammer might help a little too.
