I have a problem with my 1990 nissan Pathfinder 4x4. I stopped at a stop light and proceded to drive when my truck let out a light thud like sound. I rev the engine to get nothing but rpm. There was no tranny drive. I pulled over to find that I had no reverse either. My drive shaft was still in tact. My axels were good. All the truck would do was rev. It idals fine. No knocks, no whines, no nothing. I can put the truck in 4 lo in drive which is not right.  Only in neutral it should shift into 4lo. The fluid is fine and not burnt. No metal shavings. I just changed fluid in the T-Case about 2  months ago, no leaks in it. I think it is a electrical selinoid problem. If anyone has an idea please e-mail me because I hate being the one on a tow truck. My e-mail is PathFinder4x@aol.com.

did you say it drives in lowrange?

start looking around for another pathfinder as a parts truck.

when you rev it up see if it does any type of shifting then you know its not the tranny.

i dono play with it hope you got another truck around.

The Truck wont go anywhere. Not in even 4 lo. All it does is rev up. I think I'll will look for a parts truck though. I think it might be an electrical problem with the harness or a selinoid went out. I'm not positive yet. I dont think its the torqe converter because the engine idals just fine so its not locked up. Thanks for the reply.

I dont know if yours has one but it might be the trans computer that fried out.  This happened to a car my gf had, first it woldnt shift out of 2nd gear then what you're describing happened.  I dont know how much the solinoid cost but you better hope its that cause those computers cost a pretty penny

Thanks for the reply. Im not sure if it has a seperate computer, but Im sure it does. Someone was saying it might  be a line pressure solenoid valve. I'll have to find out what the deal is on both those items. Working on it isnt that big a deal, its finding out whats wrong with it. Thanks again.

Maybe you tried this already, but check out your T-case.  It's chain drive isn't it?  The chain might have broken, in some T-cases the front and rear are driven by the chain.  I don't know squat about Nissans this is just a general tip.  Good Luck

Thanks for the info. I already tried it and the t-case lock the front axle and unlocks it. There is a torqe converter sensor that might be the problem, but I need a diagram of that tranny so I know what is what. Thanks a lot for the reply to my giant problem.

if i were you try to put it in 4lo or hi then in gear to drive it to see if the rear yoke is broken other then that you might have some elect.shift valves broke. If that dont work try to contact a company called DACCO my loc. dealers # is 734 427 5310 give all info to them  thay helped me save $400 to rebuild my c6. Oh the person will give you your closet dealer too.
