I belong to a volunteer fire department with a 1966 F-250 4X4 brush truck. We are discussing upfitting with disc brakes all around and adding power steering. The truck has a 352 V-8, four speed manual transmission, and weighs in at 11,000+ lbs. How about some serious suggestions.

Thanks

Leaf spring suspension? What size tire? Are there speed requirements you must be able to obtain?

Yes on the leaf springs. The springs have been rebuilt (added to and re-arched as necessary. 16.5 X9.75 aluminum aftermarket rims, Super Swamper 35 X 12.5 tires. Engine has govenor that restricts top speed to around 60/63 MPH.

Thanks

Was gonna suggst rockwells, but you would be seriously hindered in teh top speed only runnin 35's. Id probably retrofit some superduty dual piston caliper discs onto the front. Rear will be easy, just check out all the 14 bolt disk conversion kits that are on the market for cheap. Need to run a serious mastercylinder with a hydroboost setup.

You might think about a hydro-boost brake master cylinder if you plan on going with power steering

where is your department at because I'm ont the east grand plains deprtment in chaves county NM. don't get me wrong we still hand build most components on our trucks but that's mostly a pride and tradition thing(every one else just orders them complete) but the point is that the county pays for brush truck cab and chasis every ten or twelve years brand new f-550's mind you and all our components, perhaps you should get your county comition on track because keeping a truck as old as that is silly unless for sentimental reasons.
