You best bet is to attempt to limit how much water get splashed up there in the first place. Inner feder wells and flaps inside the wheel well covering the inner fender to frame gap will help. Electric fans help in the water too, turn them off so there is no splashing.

The mud racers usually have a cover of sorts over the distributor cap to stop water from soaking it, but it will still get wet.

Don't forget to extend all your driveline vents up to a dry place to.

I was just about to mention the front & rear diff vents. A lot of folks miss that one. Check your t-case vent too, although that should be high already. I've seen distributor housing covers out there, just can't remember where right now. Try looking at HighJackers.com. It's not something you leave on all the time, but just when your'e in da mud. If you can't find any just double-bag the dist with hefty freezer bags and tie wrap 'em at the bottom - A redneck fix to be sure. just poke some small air holes in 'em so it can breathe some.

You may also need a snorkle(s) for your exhaust if you plan to get in the deep stuff. There's also a removable foam screen that K&N makes -depending on your air intake model.

thanks redbeast. i did take care of the diffs, the t-case and the trans vent tubes. my problem is in the ignition. everytime i go wheeling and hit some good 2 to 3 foot plus water holes with any kind of speed like 15 to 20 mph, i can be sure with in an hour or so if not right on the spot ill have to replace the hall effect pick up in the dis. ill try "yer" redneck fix.thanx again.

I had the same problem.  I siliconed my distributer and tapped a hole in it with a 1/4" hose. then I routed it through the fire wall.

But with only 2' or 3' puddles it sounds like your crank position sensor is about to take a dump.  You can pick one up at Auto Zone for around $60.  It is located just behind and the harmonic balancer at the bottom and is held in with one bolt and a bracket.  you can't miss it.

Try the electric fan thing too - as someone else mentioned here. You can route a switch inside the cab and turn it off when you get in the wet stuff. You'll gain a few more horses by dumping the engine driven one too. It makes sense that all the fan is doing at that point is blowin water all over your engine & coil. Then you can really go on the 'redneck rampage' and don't hold anything back!  Get you a few cans of 'wire dryer' at that auto part too so you don't have to wait two hours for your coil to air dry.
