I recently acquired a 93 Ford Explorer XLT and it is completely stock. VERY BORING! I am just wondering if there are many things i can do it or if it is worth my time or money to try and turn it into something even slightly trailorthy.

There is a lot of stuff you can do an Explorer. The short wheel base plus light weight can be a real advantage on trails.

To make it even slightly trail worthy - I'd SELL IT, and buy a CHEVY 4X4 truck !!!
- just kidding........ No, not really. I hate Fords, and "Exploders" are the worst. - just my opinion, don't let it get you down.

provided its got 4 wheel drive, it should be pretty capable. it'll probobly need a torsion bar lift kit. check out skyjackers kits so you don't bottom it out too soon.
the best advice for new trail rig is to make sure its got places to pull from, and get somre aggressive tires.

Listen to Redbeast, get rid of it and buy a Chevy. I drifted away from Chevy, don't know why, I was a dumbass. After Chevy I bought a Ford, biggest piece of crap I have ever owned. There notorius for electrical problems and engine knocking and pinging. Do yourself a big favor and get rid of it. Listen to me, I know from experience!!!!

It's way over-due then. It will go with a vengeance when it does - my prediction (without a chrystal ball). The only other explanation is that there's a wayyy lucky rabbit's foot in it somewhere.

Or it is a quality vechicle. Just because others have problms doesnt mean they all due. I know of 6 with more then 450,000 km's on them with the original powertrain. If taken care of they are very dependable vechicles.

Tuff Country makes a 4" suspension lift for arround $700. You can get a 2" or 3" body lift for about $100.

Don't let the ( At Ford Quality Is Job One ) fool you.
My pos Ford has always been well maintained and is this biggest piece of *** that I have ever owned.
If you recently bought it how could it have lasted with no breakdowns for the past 13 years?
Is this is what the dealership salesman or the last guy you bought it from said? Don't beleive them.

He didn't ask you as to your opinion on his vehicle as to whether or not to keep it he asked what he could do to make it more offroad capable. I think about a 4" tuff country lift as was said would be a good start with about 31's.
