Hey everyone i have a 1992 Chevy K1500 Extended cab z71 with 31x10.50R15 tires on 15x9 rally rims off of a 78 Chevy Pickup.  The problem is every other month i have had to replace the steering idler arm due to extreme wear.  I replaced the stock gm part with a Carquest part which was their top of the line part for $250 and have replaced it twice after wearing out their low grade one for $70 in 5 days and i havent even wheeled this truck that hard yet.  What brand of idler arm should i try next? Should i go back to GM and buy their replacement one with the screw-style joint or find one from another company such as MOOG?  The idler arm is a 2bolt design. Also should i consider a swap to the 3 bolt design?  Ball joints, wheel bearings are stock and show no signs of wear and ive replaced the lower tierod ends once but im considering making some tie rod ends like they did for the Red Sled project.

Moog (Federal Mogul) parts are pretty high quality. Spicer parts are better - the price is higher too of course, but you get what you pay for.
You could have probably bought one Spicer part for the same cost of the 3 cheaper ones you burned out so far.
Sometimes the 'expensive' part turns out to be cheaper.
I'd have a reputable shop take a look at your front end. It sounds like something's not right there if you haven't taken it out and thrashed it yet. even the cheap parts don't wear out in a week unless something else is wrong there.
Just a suggestion.

Yeah well my uncle owns a shop n hes pretty experienced and thats what hes told me is because of the offset steel wheels/heavy offroad tires but still these parts shouldnt be wearing out in a weekish.  think it would be worthit to convert over to the 3 bolt design? does anyone have a k3500 dually?? is the idler arm on them any beefier than the half tons? on 4wheel's red sled what do they use for the idler arm because i know they beefed up their tie rods
