Well I am selling my Truck and my off road toy to finance what I hope will be a melding of both of them.

After drooling on the new suburban have decided for about the same money (38k) I can build a better one to match my own twisted since of need
>>
I can turn a mean wrench and R & I an engine or transmission but this project is beyond my skills so I am looking for input.

Here is the Skinny
I am looking at an early 1970’s Suburban conversion. (Manly because in Oregon I can thumb my nose at DEQ and smog with one this old)
I am not a mud Boggier or a rock crawler but I like to play off road when work will let me this truck will be on road about 70% of the time. I am thinking of about six inches of lift and 38’s for tires

I have a few questions for the experts
>>
I want a nice built 502(??) from GM performance parts (Maybe the ramjet)
>>
Need suggestions on the following
>>
- Transmission?
- Transfer case? (Was hopping to get one with a PTO for a Hydraulic pump I picked up just in case)
- 1-ton running gear or custom axels?
- Lockers?
- 4 Wheel Disk breaks?
- Suggestions for a local shop that will take my money and return what I want?
- With a Six-inch lift should I use something other then a standard u-joint?
- Rock Ram Steering or the standard?
- Box the frame?

I can see it all in my mind four nice seats, racing hardness, a custom console from the dash to the back seats, side view cameras instead of mirrors, Diamond plate boxes in the back drivers side housing two 6DRV batteries passengers side a auto start generator to run the roof top air. Alternating strips of white ash and black walnut for the floor behind the rear seats.
