MY 96 JEEP CHEROKEE WON'T START WHEN IT WARMS UP. IF IT GETS REAL HOT IT WILL DIE(240). I FIXED THE CONNECTION ON THE AUXILARY FAN SO HOPEFULLY IT WONT DIE ANYMORE, BUT IT STILL WONT CRANK FIRE WHEN HOT(NORMAL RUNNING TEMP 210). YOU CAN COAST START IT OR PULL START IT RIGHT OFF BUT IT WONT CRANK OVER AND START. I THINK BECAUSE OF THIS REASON IT IS ELECTRICAL. MY MECHANIC SAID OLDER JEEPS HAD A RESISTOR THAT WOULD GET HOT, BUT THE NEWER JEEPS DONT. THE FUEL PUMP WORKS, I HAVE CONSIDERED VAPOR LOCK , BUT THERE IS NO HEAT ON THE FUEL LINE ANYWHERE, AND I FIGURED IT WOULD START UP AFTER WARDS, BUT IT DOESNT DIE BECAUSE OF VAPOR LOCK, IT RUNS TIL I SHUT IT OFF. THE STARTER CRANKS. IT HAS APPROX. 197000 MILE ON IT SO IT IS NOT A SPRING CHICKEN BY ANY MEANS, BUT IT IS PRETTY FRUSTRATING. 4.0 HO I6, 5 SPD TRANNY.

ok first thing is first check your electrical conections i know it sounds simple but check... next see if there are any leaks especially around the starter ... k i know this is basic stuff but sometimes thats where the mechanic makes his money... lets see do you have a tc code coming up on the jeep you probably would have said you did in your previous post but if there is a trouble code what is the trouble code. thats all i can think of for now wait what about a faulty temp sending unit or maybe its designed not to start if your temp goes above 230 or whatever... best of luck

Your computer is turning your truck off for you. I had this problem in my 93 cherokee and I just had air in the radiator line. It should fire back up when it cools down. If it's not restarting then I may be wrong. Sounds like the problem I had. You have OBD2 in yours so there are even more sensors trying to catch problems. Sounds like you just need to keep the temp down somehow. Good luck.

Well anyone who owns a jeep should know that its the crank senser its is on the drivers side under the hood between the block and the transmission it has 2 bolts ..i belive there 10mm and a wire with a plug on it ....you will know that its that because your jeep will start cold and in a bout 10-15 mins it will shut off and not start until its cold again.....its not expencive and can be done in 15 mins .....i have changed quite a few of these .....try this and let me know

Your problem is most likely the crank sensor at that mileage, its probably coincidence that it pull starts though I have seen where the fuel pump is getting weak and will not build enough key-on pressure to purge the hot-soaked vapor filled fuel from the injector rail through the fuel pressure regulator, the pump may have enough pressure to run the engine but not enough to overcome the spring pressure in the regulator, quick and accurate fuel pressure check when hot might prove this, also had my 87 Cherokee do the same when hot but is was the ignition module under coil, your Jeep has different system.
