the k5 blazer buy far. the bronco would be my 2nd. all k5's had a straight axle under them that will hold 35's with no proms. and they had the power to turn them if you dont wanna put gears in. the broncos straight axle and ttb's. "I" dont like ttb's not as strong as a straight axle plus ford parts are higher then chevy parts. toyota's are good play toys. in stock form some people say the axles are stronger then 1 tons in stock form. ive never seen a "stock" toyota break an axle. but the down fall to toyotas is the power. you dont have any. plus you start to lift them the axles will start to let you down if you go over 35's and pound them hard. plus yotas are high. and cj, yj or tj's. again the axle. the front axle is weak. ive seen tj's on 31's break the front axle easy. but you put dana 44s under them and a good set of 35's you will have a great toy but with a jeep 35's you NEED gears

bronco or chevy k5. if ur into trucks, the k10 is a nice truck to 4wheel with. although a little bulky, nice toy with a serious attitude. see if you could find one with a 6ft box and GM14 out back. as for the bronco, id pick the early broncos. small, tough, and pretty snotty with a 302 and a 4spd. 72-77 i think are the best. it has a ford 9 inch rear and strong axles. price tag may be a pretty penny for one in good shape. if your looking to build, id suggest maybe taking a bronco frame and slapping a bronco II body on it. ive see it done before and its killer when done right. hope i helped in anyway

Chevy all the way in my opinion! I've got two K5 beasts but I've driven them all - Ford trucks - bronco and pickup, 2WD and 4WD - (company trucks), also tried the Toyotas - nice quality little toys but no power if you want to hang with da big dawgs. Friend of mine has a 68 Dodge Power Wagon - What a beast! - but parts for it will turn your hair gray!
K5's and Chevy 1/2 ton & 1-ton pickups are plentiful and relatively inexpensive compared to other models. Parts for Chevy engines are the same -inexpensive and plentiful. The best would be a 350 block bored over .030 with a 400 crank - that gets you a 383 stroker - baddest dawg in the yard in my opinion.
A 14-bolt ff rear end will get you the toughest axle for these trucks are are pretty easy to work on. Dana 60 or 44 in front.
As for the rest - TH-350 or TH-400 tranny and an NP-205 Transfer case.
This combination leaves you 'loaded for bear' and you'll have the respect of anyone who knows 4X4 or trucks in general. Nuff said!
