My dad has one and I have been tryin to buy it from him for a long time. They are not as nimble off-road as the lighter trucks, but they pull a whole lot harder. They also have a huge backing by the aftermarket so fixing one up would not be hard at all. Definitely make sure to convert it to manual locking hubs with Downey's kit as the CV joints will have wear on them. This kit replaces the factory joints and puts in Warn hubs. Loads of power in the V8 with a good intake and exhaust system. Good luck and check out Performance Products and get a free catalog from them.
