i have a luck for a samurai but ive heard that with the stock 1,3l they hardly go more than56mph i want to use it as a daily driver and if it only go to 50-60mph i will not be really fuel efficient on highway. so i want to know the true speed and to know cheap way to add more top speed to a little samu thanks

Little things can help teh engine perform, like a tune-up, exhaust, air filter... and make sure if you are running any tire larger than stock that the axles are geared correctly. YOur next step in engine upgrades would be swapping in a new motor, the sidekick 1.6 is relatively easy.

i had a 90 sami and i drove it 50 miles everyday and it sux on the highway passing anyone is next to impossible. but little things can help like cold air kit, general tune up stuff, unless you want to chang the gearing, if you really want to get into it theres a 4.3 conversion you can do.

If you can find one of the old rabbits.  Swapping the diesel motor out of it works really well.

See rocky-road.com for engine performance additions, rebuild kits and swap kits.  My stock Samuri does 52mph on flat ground with no wind.  I am currently rebuilding the engine and adding to it.

gee wiz guys what in the world are you talking about 52mph??? come on I run 65 going to work. of course thats on flat ground I have the 2 barrel webber installed on the original 1.3L Zuki engine I only get 22 MPG if I hit a head wind I'll slow to 55 in a second, if I try to climb a hill I slow to 50 but normal travel it cruses 60 easy, I just upgraded the 205/75/15's to 215/75/15s and seem to go a bit easier, don't get me wrong there is no low end torque it works hard to gain speed.
I dailly drive mine and enjoy the heck out of it. I'm real close to upgrading to 33/12.50/15's and 6:1 gears. I have been told that the transfer gears will give me a 20% reduction in the final drive and that will compensate for the bigger tires. I will post up when that is done and tell you what I think of it.

Do not gear your axles on a samurai if you want to take it offroad. The pinion gear is already really small and if you go any smaller you will be replacing them frequently. Gear your transfer case and the should solve larger tire issues. I run 60 in my samurai with 4.9gears in the case and 31x12.50 tires. I can get it up to 65 for the highway. I have a 1.3l dual mikuni carbs on mine (dual 2 barrel carbs)I get 20 miles to the gallon and drive it everyday. Just a little cold in the winter.
