Regarding the certified techs training people overseas then getting laid off; that sounds SO evil!

We might have extremes like that here in Canada, but it hasn't been in the news. We've had a lot of people with layoffs because of big business moving out to places like Mexico and India, and a lot of people who are highly qualified, under employed or under paid.

Alberta is a lot better off than the rest of the country though. Economically probably better off than any entire state in the U.S.A. The people are friendlier and more active as a whole than people in Ontario. There are only a few things I wouldn't like about Alberta, on average every season is cooler than here, every month, even July here is already cooler than I'd prefer, most parts are farther from the ocean than here and the last one is all the best amusement parks with the fastest coasters are in the U.S. northeast, within a days drive from here, but about 3 days drive or 3 hour flight from Alberta.

If I couldn't sense cold and was almost entirely unaffected by it, I'd probably move to Alberta in a heartbeat. 44F is always cold enough to cause pain in my finger tips. My dad has great circulation. If he stays dry he won't feel pain from cold if it's above 0 F!

That's just 'life in the big city' these days brother!  If it's not that way in Canada yet, count yourself lucky. These days employees are just numbers on a card. It doesn't matter if you bust your ass working while your co-worker takes it easy. When it comes salary increase time or layoff time both will get exactly the same treatment - the voice of experience here. So many people (and families) grew up in big companies for generations like Boeing aircraft or GM, even up in Canada - Avro employees all got the shaft some years back. It's all a mystery to employers, but guess what - If you don't give a *** about your employees, then your employees don't give a *** about your company, and the two travel hand-in-hand down the toilet!  Most employees don't get that big "golden parachute" like the management does though. That's industry today 'rewards for those who do the least work'!!

Other than that, I don't feel strongly on the subject one way or the other!

It' pretty much the same way in Canada too, only here the weather is not comfortable for spending long periods of time outdoors 7 or more months a year. (including yucky rainy summer days too)

Canadians spend more money per capita of any nation on travel. Pretty much everyone but the poor travels here. At least half of it is to somewhere much warmer like with palm trees, a good part of it is to places that are usually, coincidentally warmer like Europe (even places like Scotland and Denmark are warmer than us in winter) and maybe 1/10th or lower of all vacations are to go somewhere cold for skiing.

LOL! I'm happy for you being able to live in Florida. It'd suck if no one was allowed to live there. Besides, us northerners need people to live there to keep all the hotels and tourist attractions up and running for us. (grin)

Try to not get sunburned... (kidding)
