That all depends on how you want to use it, (mud, rocks, sand). Will you be using it alot off road or every now and then? Also will it be a daily driver? Is the motor and drive line are solid? Let me know and then we can go from there. E-mail me at In2muddin@sccoast.net

this is going to be a full offroading truck but i'm only 17 so i don't have a lot of money and i have heard that Chevy/GMC offroad trucks tend to crack the frames right at the power steering box mount so how do i reinforce that area???

Welcome! My second truck was a 1976 Chevy stepside, 350/SM465 4 Speed/NP205 Transfercase. Great trucks! There are tons of them out there and parts interchange pretty easy, they are cheap to lift and easy to work on. I would start out with a mild lift (4-6inches) and some new tire (33s for 4 inch lift and 35's for the 6 inch) and see how that works for you. Get a Lock Right or Powertrax "no slip" locker (locking differential) for the rear. They are pretty easy to install, you don't have to mess with the ring and pinion gears, it just replaces the spider gears. That should get you started as a good all around 4X4. Then once you figure out what you like and will use it for mostly, then you can make more specialized modifications.
NO LIFT BLOCKS IN THE FRONT!!!!Avoid rear lift blocks if you can, new springs, add a leaf springs, or a shackle lift in the rear is the way to go. Off Road Design in Colorado specializes in full size Chevy's (GMC) and has all kinds of cool stuff. I have their shackle flip lift (about ($150) in the rear of my 1995 chevy and it works great.
