im in high school and i have a 89 jeep yj. its a stock inline-6 as of right now with a few stainless ass. grill, latches, etc. i have a limited amount of income but i want to lift it and put biger tires and possibly other mods what would be the best way of doint this, without gettin into the thousands, should i go with 30x10.50's and no lift, but i really want more like 33's or 35's, i dont off-road alot due to school but i hunt alot and want to be able to get in and know im able to get back out and go where i need too, i also want it to look good, what should i do?

if you are worried about looks it will cost more
now if you want to wheel and not get stuck, then stay home, cause anyone can get stuck
if you are interested in having the most fun for the least amount of $ I would recomend keeping the tires small, 31 10.5 mud terrains and adding a locking differential. then as you save up you can get a lift and the 33's or 35's if you ever go bigger than 35's expect the stock axles to fail, unless you are only going to the mall
good luck, and get out there wheeling, it is much more impressive to be a cool truck on the trail than a looker on the lot (parking lot)

thanks for your help im not looking for the best looks i just dont want it to look like i got it out the junk yard i would rather it work the best the reason i dont want to get stuck is that we have may people around that are very competative when 4 wheeling but mostly around her its just mudd bogging they have (toyota's, fords, chevys) but there are not many jeep i just want to have the best chance to put them up for the test on the other had i should have around 2 grand this christmas should i wait off on the smaller tires and geta lift and wait or should i get the smaller tires and a locker? i like the detroit electrac locker, are they made for front and back on daily drivers. my axles are stock. if i should go with the lift what type of life should i go with 2" 4"? what brand would you sugest? also why type of mud terrains would you sugest for a low buget? thanks for all your help any other sugestions are welcome thanks

save up
for mud tires check out our February 04 issue it will have some mud tires testing.
I hate to recomend suspensions that I don't know, and I don't have a YJ, yet.
check out the february 03 as it has a buyers guide on leaf spring, and should give you an idea of where to look for kits.
remember that the larger you go the more you will need to spend, as Gears, and axle/driveshaft problems start to arrise
