I have been muddy for some years. But I'm new to the whole import trucks. I have heard alot of pros and cons about the trucks. I just recently bought my first import. I went with a 1991 Toyota Pickup 4x4 extended cab with an automatic trans. V6 engine. My truck is stock all the way around. The body is still in good shape and runs great.

But like I was saying I'm not new to the mudding world, but I'm new to the import truck world. So I was wondering If anybody can give me some pointers about this truck. I'm in the US Army, so I'm not rich. I was looking for some locations and websites to find upgrades at good prices for my project.

Please help with my new PROJECT PICKUP!!!

Thank You All and good Mudding

I also have a toyota, and though mine has the 4 cylinder with the 5 speed it is still a great little off road truck.  I guess you question is what can you do to it to make it better off road, in mud particularly.  try this recipe

In mud you want traction, and that comes through, locking differentials and tires.  This is where I would start.

By simply adding the biggest mud tire you can fit, and a locking rear differential you will go farther in the mud than stock.  The evolution is endless, but usually you can get by with stock ring and pinion gear ratio if you are just going up a few sizes in tires (31-inch).  Also be sure to air down your tires before you go off road in the mud.  This will likely lower your truck, but will give better flotation and traction.  We found that my toyota would go twice as far in the mud at 12 psi then at 25 psi.  Just remember to air up before you get back on the street.

To get the most performance I would lift the truck, put on tires up to about 35 to 36 inches (going larger than that is really testing the strength of the Independent suspension components) change the gears and add a locker to the rear (also add one up front if you can afford it, but a selectable locker such as an ARB would work better).

If you are really poor just invest in the best tow hooks you can afford, botl them on strong, buy a tow strap, get a buddy and go play.  Be sure to not get in too deep, but if you get stuck just have your pal pull you out.  Getting stuck is fun, so don't freak out.  We've all been stuck, and anyone who says they can't get stuck is pullin your chain, or not pushing it far enough.

I have a 85 toyota and I had put 31'' mikey thompson baja claws on it and that upgrade was enough for me to keep up with all the big full size trucks.I didn't have the power they had but I was the one they called for to pick them up when there heavy rigs were buried.TOYOTA POWER!
