I have a Toyota with the 20R engine in it.  Now, when I go down a hill in low gear it "backfires" What causes this and how do I fix it.

Thx

Check the timing lately? If it's got a carb you might be running to rich, or a combination of both.

Baron 006 is right, every one degree of timing off could cause the engine to backfire when under a drivetrain induced load.
