i got a 1972 jeep commando and can hardly find parts for them and need to put disc brakes on the front

Go with ceramic pads when you get the brakes installed. Much better stopping power & feel. Very little brake dust too.

You need to find out what kind of front axle you have, then you can go about getting the parts from a newer axle with disc brakes.
