Yea, I wouldn't invest a whole lot of bucks in that ride either. As long as it's somewhat reliable for you at the moment. Better days are ahead for you in Chevy 4X4 country! Once you get that bitter Ferd taste out of your mouth. Hang in there!

Last Sunday (8-20), I passed by an 80's K-5 Blazer sitting in someones yard about a 1/4 of a mile down the road from where I live. It had a big wooden sign on it in big letters $1000 I have seen this K-5 Blazer in my neighberhood for sometime. Just by driving by and looking at it, it looks like it has a 4-inch lift on it with 33's. It does look to be in pretty good shape other than the usual Chevy rust.
I'm not too sure on the exact year though, since I never stopped in to inquire about it. I just can tell its an 80's K-5 Blazer.
I drove by Tuesday at about 4:30 in the morning and it was gone. Unless the person that owns it is still using it and just sets it out on the weekend.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if they sold it that quick.
The main reason why I didn't stop in to look at it, is it really isn't the year that I'm after. I don't really want anything after the 70's.
A couple of miles up the road, there is a 70's Blazer that I think is for sale. I'm not to sure if it is a 2-wheel drive, or a 4-wheel drive. I'm going to go look at it today to see if it is a 4X4 and to see what kind of shape it is in.

As of (8-24), the 80's K-5 Blazer is still up for sale.
The price went from $1000 to $600. I don't understand why they are selling it so cheap.
I know it runs and drives as it is not always parked there. It's a nice looking 4X4 too!
Maybe its a divorce (thing) and the wife got it through a court ruling and she's selling it real cheap to piss off her ex-husband???
If I had a place to keep it, I'd check it out and probalbly buy it and either put it on the road or sell it at a much higher price
I'm not too sure if it would pass Maryland State Inspection with the lift thats on it. I don't know what the laws are here with a truck with a lift on it.
I checked out the 70's K-5 Blazer today. It's sitting in front of a towing Company that sometimes sells vehicles at cheap prices. The place appeared to be closed at the time with (beware of dog signs) all over the fence, so I couldn't inquire about it. It didn't have a for sale sign on it though. It has the typical rust on the rocker panels (holes), lower fenders (holes), and on the body line on the drivers side rear panel(holes), and on the passenger side, there is a hole above the rear tail light. Underneath looked pretty good considering how old it is. The interier is worn and dirty. I am going to go back again to see if I can talk to someone to see if it is for sale.
Sorry about the longggggggg post!!

It sounds like your drooling over a woman dude!! Those trucks are diamonds in the rough. The people selling them know not what they do. I know how you feel about the $600.00 one - I had the same opportunity recently, and damn, if I couldn't do anything about it. - an old '70's Chevy work truck for $640.00. It had a 14-bolt 8-lug rear axle I want, the relacement cab roof I need, the original doors I can re-skin, and who knows how many other parts I could have used from it. It's gone now of course. I know when I'm able to afford all these individual items it will cost me 10 times what this would have!! Sucks to be me!
I've also been drooling over a '60's Chevy pickup I pass everyday going to work & back. They are probably asking too much 'cause it's been there, fo sale, for almost a month now.
If it really was a divorce sale she would be selling it for $1.00 dude !
I'd jump on the $600.00 truck if you really want one - how much cheaper can you buy a rough diamond for dude! remember...'He who hesitates is lost'. Rust is not that big a deal if you can buy a cheap Mig welder ( under $300.00 at Sears ) and do it your self. Just get some practice on scrap pieces before you try to weld the real parts. Aftermarket replacement floor panels and rocker replacements are dirt cheap. I got my rocker replacement panels from LMC for under $30.00. The labor I do all myself - Keeps the wife from charging and mauling me! I keep reminding her how much money I'm saving in labor. - that keeps the Grizzly's belly full so she won't feed on me!

The '80's trucks have square headlights. The 70's one are round. 73-87 is the range I would look for. Preferably not newer than about 82 - would be my preference.
The 4X4 will have locking hubs in the front, or if it's a full-time 4X4 it will have chrome caps on the front hubs. just look under it for the front driveshaft to be sure it's a 4X4, and not 2X.
4-inch lift and 33's are the best all around for genaral use. I'm not sure what the laws are up that way though.
- just some quick things to look for to identify these trucks

Yeah, my tongue has been hanging out of my mouth ever since I saw both K-5's. I'm trying to resist the urge to drive down the road to see if the 80's one is still there, and I'm also trying to avoid stopping in to look at it. The 70's Blazer has been sitting in the same spot for a few weeks now.
I can see myself taking a late night cruise down the road to see if it is still there.
I would think that it is gone by now at a dirt cheap price of $600! I'm real surprized it didn't sell for $1000!
Like I said before, if I had a place to keep it, I'd probalbly buy it. Then I would have to fix whatever needed to be fixed and then get it to pass inspection, and right now I couldn't afford to maintain two trucks and pay insurance on two vehicles.
If I were to be able to buy the 70's K-5 at a cheap price, I could easily put that one on the road as long as it runs and drives. In Maryland if a vehicle is 20 or 25 years old,(don't recall if its 20 or 25 years), but I could easily find out by calling the MVA, you can get historic tags for it and this truck fits in this catagory. This means that it doesn't have to be (Maryland State Inspected). That's another reason why I like old vehicles. Buy it, make it road worthy, get it insured, get the tags, and drive it. Insurance is also cheaper too with the historic tags. With historic tags your only supposed to be able to drive it on the weekends, but I have friends with old vehicles with the historic tags that drive cars and trucks everyday of the week and they never get stopped by the cops.
Everytime you see something that you want, THE MONEY IS NEVER THERE AND I KNOW THAT YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!! (IT SUCKS TO BE ME TOO!!)

You say '73 to '87, but you prefer nothing past '82.
Is the transfer cases and axles different after '82?
I know that the '70's ones have the bulletproof NP205 T-case, and I believe a Turbo-400 trans.(auto version) or the SM420 or SM465 (manual version),right? I,m not too sure on the axles.
The above set-up is what I want in a K-5 Blazer.
If you ever have the time, I would like to know what the 80's K-5's have, and how they changed from the 70's trucks. (This only includes the transfer case, auto & manual trannys, and axles).
I've been sitting in front of this computer for sometime now and I keep changing how I'm typing this. I think I've got (CHEVY ON THE BRAIN) and I believe its time to get off of the computer and take a ride down the road and hope that the 80's K-5 is sold so I can stop thinking about it!! LOL

*Sorry, I meant Cedar Point. Must have had the Keys on the brain again. That's one part I miss about living in Miami, is being close to the Fla Keys. They are not the same Keys I grew up with though. Change is a bad thing in Fla.
LOL , I am thinking about becoming a half-back actually. It's getting too expensive to retire in Florida. It's not quite as bad as California yet -around the Napa Valley. Now that's brutal out there! It's just the snow I can't cope with since my days in Connecticut. I can't see becoming a hermit for half the year, after living in Florida and sweating outdoors on Christmas Eve!*
LOL. Ya, Cedar Point is awesome in the summer. Has anything happened to the Keys besides increasing real estate prices?
That sucks Florida's so expensive now. I remember hearing about people on TV were talking about how cheap FL was, like 15 yrs ago.
I saw on climate pages that nowhere in Florida or the U.S. southeast has records at or above 90 F in the winter months.
Maybe I'm a cold-blooded Canadian, like an alligator. But I've spent many vacations in FL and there have been many days around 85 F in December or January and despite this, I don't think I have ever sweated in Florida! I have been cold in Florida many times. In fact everytime I go to Florida, there's always some time that I get at least a little cold and uncomfortable outdoors in the morning.

Some times you have to go with what you are offered, and what you can afford at the time. All I'm saying is don't pass up a great deal on an '82 truck, - for instance. The tranny, axles, or engine can always be swapped to what you really want later on.
The T-cases for these trucks were the NP-205 (gear driven) Da best!! - from 73-80, NP-203 (chain driven) ( full-time 4X4 trucks) from 73-79, NP-208 (chain driven) from 81-88, and NP-241 (chain driven) from 88-91. There was even a Dana 20 T-case in 1973 models (gear driven) with the Saginaw Muncie (SM465) manual tranny. After 1980 the NP-208 was the standard T-case. and the NP-241 after 88.
82 was also the year the 6.2L Detroit Diesel engine was introduced.
As far as trannies - The TH350 (3-speed auto) ran from 73-81, TH400 (3-speed auto) from 77-87, the TH700-R4 from 82-87. The Muncie (4-peed manual) (M20 - RPO Code) ran from 73-87. I don't know a whole lot about manual trannies, other than 3-speeds were available between 73-84 , and 4-speeds with OD available between 82-87.
Hope this info helps you some.

How's (Ernesto) treating you?
In Maryland, we are supposed to get anywhere from 5 to 10 inches of rain out of this storm. I myself love when it rains its ass off or when it snows butt hole deep!
Thanks for the info. on the old iron!!!
As of Weds. morning, the last day that I traveled down the road where the $600 Blazer sits, its still there. I'm doing my best not to travel down that road, because I know right now that I can't afford to put that vehicle on the road. The more I pass by it, the more I want to maybe buy it. I'm just guessing, but for the cheap price that their asking for it, it must have (Many Things Wrong) with it or one (BIG )thing thats wrong with it. There's an 88' Blazer on my way to work that is for sale, it looks like it too has a 4-inch lift on it with 33's that has a price on it for $3500 thats is listed in the paper as being in excellent condition. It's at a business that does service work, towing, and they sell all used trucks, mostly FERDS, but an once in a while you might see a Chevy on the lot. I know the price jumps up alot higher at a dealer, but this is just a reference. The $600 one just seems too good to be true!!! You know what I mean?
The old 70's K-5 is still sitting in the same spot though. I would much rather have this Blazer than the 80's one, because it has a better drive train, NP205, a better auto. trans. and probalbly a good ole' 350 engine. ( Not to sure if everything works though), and a body style that I like much better than the (newer) stuff. I haven't gone back to inquire about it. The place always looks closed up.
Just for the heck of it, I checked out (LMC Truck) and the prices weren't too bad, but where are the parts made at??
I know for sure that the 6.2L diesel engine was a BIG TURD.
I hope (Ernesto) doesn't do you wrong.
Type to you later!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea !! BIG HURRICANE ERNESTO !!! The media went absolutely ape *** here, pouding everyone to get ready two days before the BIG storm hit !!! The result was 'door buster' panic sales at Wal-mart, Home Depot, Publix, etc... The shelves were empty of water, batteries, any canned food, ice, etc...Everyone also panicked and ran for the gas stations before all the gas ran out in the whole state! There were absolutely no gas stations with anything except possibly Diesel fuel for 3 counties around me in Central (East Coast) Florida!! There were gas lines stretching into roads blocking traffic all over. It looked like the 1973 oil embargo all over again. An elderly couple had to be evacuated by helicopter to a trauma center (hospital) after some plywood hurricane panels fell on top of them both - they were panicking, and trying to put the things up themselves! One was 80, the other 85.
All the news channels were broadcasting the storm's position roughly every 10 minutes almost two days before! "the current position of TS Ernesto is now..." ( the same place it was 10 minutes ago) !
We never got any winds above 30 mph ! I know, people in Miami would have made a claim to Fema over this. - There were hundreds in Miami that made claims to Fema during Hurricane Frances and were sent money by Fema! Miami got 40 mph winds out of that storm! - We had 126mph and they refused claims to several of my neighbors!! I think Miami got 40-45 mph winds out of this WEAK tropical storm. It was actually just a tropical depression when it got to us.
There's an official looking joke thing going around the internet reporting "damage from TS Ernesto" with an attached picture. When you open the picture it's a plastic patio furniture set next to someone' pool, with one of the four plastic chairs blown over nest to the table. It's hilarious!
I swear, people are regressing into apes around here!! with the local media leading the charge down the hill! Way to go morons !!
I apologize to everyone here about hi-jacking this thread, and going off topic, but other than that, I don't feel strongly on this subject. I feel much better now! ...why does it still smell like wet gorilla though...?

Your not hi-jacking this thread, I'm the one that started this (To Redbeast Thread).
We can talk about everything and anything we want to.
Tales of woe!
Misguided Ferd lovers!!
All imports suck!!!
I soiled my underpants!!!!
Chevy kicks ass!!!!!
You forgot the biggest item on the moron list,(TOILET PAPER).
It makes me laugh when the weather stations are calling for a couple of inches of snow in the winter. All the morons flock to the stores to buy four main things here in MD., TOILET PAPER, EGGS, BREAD, and MILK. They act like their going to be stranded for a couple of weeks.
We are not supposed to get as much rain as they originally were calling for. They also said that tides are going to be about 5 feet higher than normal.

The 80's K-5 Blazer that I told you about is finally gone, it's about time!!! Somebody must have bought it because of the gas prices have come down alot lower than they have been. This is just a thought.
I took a late night drive, well actually an early morning drive (9-16) and went by the place where the 70's K-5 sat, it to is not sitting in front of the towing company anymore. Don't know if someone bought it, or if they maybe moved it into the fenced in lot. It never did have a (For Sale) sign on it. There were other vehicles out there before that are not at there now. They have a different line up of other vehicles out there now including an old Jeep CJ.
It kinda dissapointed me when I didn't see the 70's K-5 Blazer when I drove by. That's what I get for not trying to talk to someone about it. MOTHER #$&*@#.
I didn't care much for the 80's Blazer being sold. It wasn't what I really want.

I saw an ad in one of our local papers at a dealership for a 98' Jeep Cherokee 4X4 2-door with a 6-cyl and an auto trans. for sale with 32,300 original miles with a brand new lift kit, new wheels, and new mud tires on it. It was a bit overpriced though.
Earlier this week when I got off from work at 4:00 a.m. in the morning, I drove to the place to check it out, but it was already gone.
For a 98', 32,300 miles seems to good to be true. If I would have had a chance to buy it, I would have done a (Carfax) on it. I know this info. isn't always supposed to be perfect, but it's just makes me feel a little bit better just to run the vin #.

Thanks, brother! I go off the deep-end from time to time. Maybe I should look into a Prozac prescription at the Wal-mart pharmacy ? - kidding. I know, I'm nut's fo shor , Ain't no cure, neither.
I think I must have missed the " I soiled my underpants!!!! " thread. ....It must have been during one of my out-a-touch work cycles lately.
I know, I forgot about the TP runs at Wal-Mart !! It's like the 'Running of the Bulls' event in Pamplona, Spain! I heard there was some nutty lady on the news lately who was surviving on eating TP ! No *** dude !! It was un-used TP, but still.......
You know what the real secret is to surviving a hurricane ? If you don't eat, you won't need the TP!! I been through blizzards in Connecticut dude! I know what that's like to get stuck at home for days on end! We had 5-feet of snow in '69 ! You could not tell if your car was still at the curb unless you dug for it !! Then the plows would come by and cover up you car again with muddy slush and road salt! Then it's like the scene at the SC figure-8 track trying to go two blocks to the supermarket, and back again! We don't have that sitiation happen nearly as often here in Florida!
