If it wasn't for money being so tight nowadays, I'd sell the Ferd for and (Old School Chevy) anyday.

And with the high cost of fuel, I think I would hold off on getting a full size Chevy with a gas guzzling V-8 anyway.

For right now, I'm just going to deal with what I have. I need to buy some tires for it soon as they are almost worn down to the tread bars.

I was thinking of buying some 15x8 Pro Comp black steel wheels with some 31x10.50x15 BF Goodrich All-Terrain KO's.

What do you think of buying the wheels and tires by mail order? The one thing I hate about this is the high cost in shipping charges. Or do you think it would be cheaper just to buy them local?

I bought my wheels and tires mail order from Summit Racing. They had free shipping too! They all set me back some though. MT Classic II 15X10 rims, and Procomp XTerrains 33X12.50 - for my red beast. I couldn't go any bigger cause i have to be able to squeak it into my garage. I think I have about a 1/4 inch to play with. I hope global warming doesn't change that for me, or I'll need to have my woman 'greash me up'!  It's pretty much a street queen these days, and doesn't see a whole lot of mud. That's what my other beast is for.

You just have to know what your'e ordering and how it's going to look on you truck when ya get it, or it could get really expensive to ship back if you change your mind. I think Jeggs has the same sort of deals with the free shipping the last time I checked. It's been a little over a year and half since I got my new meats.

Some local shops can mail order specific tires & rims for you if you can't get the free shipping thing from these places.

I checked out the web-site for National Tire & Wheel.

They have varius packages for mounting and balancing which cost anywhere from $28.00 and up, plus a hefty shipping charge!

I would figure they would at least mount and balance the tires for free since you are buying both the tires and wheels.

I'm going to call Summit Racing to see what they charge for mounting, balancing, and shipping.

I'm definately going to buy my wheels from them as they are the cheapest for the wheels that I want.

If they want to charge too much for mounting, balancing, and shipping, I will just buy the wheels from them and buy the tires local and have my brother in-law take them up to his place of business to mount and balance them for free.

I looked in my new Summit mag. and it says there is a shipping charge for parts too large or to heavy, but it doesn't specify how much. Other than that everything else is free shipping other than a $9.95 handling charge.

I'll agree w/ ya bout the old fords... but as a mechanic, i can say honestly (to my experience @least) if wasnt for newer fords, mechanics like myself would be out of a job (side job for me)... my family has always had chevys and dodges... as a kid my mom delivered the mail on a rural route and she went thru several vehicles...gov issued right hand steering (set up for mail delivery) '79 jeep that would go thru everything it was put against including a combination of clay/ sand (gumbo mud as its known here) and with good shocks, the ride wasnt that bad either, and i'd say for work/play my vote would be for chevy's... dodge p/u's for second... and somewhere for the 89-93 s-10/ s-15 blazer/ jimmy and p/u... the s-10' s r extremely versital vehicles for easy mods...even for people like myself that cant afford the sometimes overpriced upgrades...

The Ranger is my first Ford and it will be my last Ford. I miss my old '84 S-10, as it would run circles around the Ford and it had a much smaller V-6 with only 110 HP!!! It definately was set up right with the V-6, 4-speed manual trans. and 3:42 gearing and some other low cost to no cost tricks that I did to the engine and exhaust.

The truck was so quick, it felt like it had a V-8 under the hood.

I once raced a Ford Mustang with the 5.0 V-8 and beat him by a couple of car lenths.

I don't know what I was thinking when I switched from Chevy to Ford. I guess we all do stupid things in our life that we regret.

I had two Chevy II Nova's, a '64 and a '65.

The '65 Nova kicked ass!!!!!!!

It had a 283 engine with 350 double hump heads, a mild cam, quadrajet 4-barrel carb., headers with dual exhaust straight out the back and a 350 turbo trans. with a 3:73 posi rear.

The '64 wasn't bad either, but it only had a 6-cyl. and a powerglide trans. But for a 6-cyl, it ran great.

I still have the same heads from the '65 Nova in my garage. Just can't seem to part with them.

That fee for large and heavy parts may be for stuff like hoods or oversized tires like 44 boggers. I didn't pay shipping on mine. My kid worked at a mechanic shop so he did the mounting & high speed balace for free. I don't think Summit will do that for you. I think it's illegal to ship inflated tires. I don't think the mount & balance would be a very big cost either way.

It was obviously staged for the benefit of the Ford crowd at the event !!......or some misguided soul installed a Ford rear end on that Nova !!

- just kidding ya dude.  Ford 9-inch rear ends are bulletproof in my book.

I still haven't called Summit yet. I did read in their magazine that they charge $10.00 for each wheel & tire to be mounted and they ship them partially inflated.

If I buy the wheels from Summit and buy the tires local, I can have my brother in-law mount and balance them for free at the Ferd Dealership that he works at.

As long as someone you know mounts and balances them I wouldn't sweat it. Otherwise you may pick up your truck and find four stick-on weights on the outside of one wheel !

I know how things are these days, dude - bleak times for everyone. GB and his cronies are all doing great though! They're all making a fortune off all us fools out here! I don't think ole D&ck lost a wink's sleep over shooting his hunting buddy in the face! ....and that's how he does his "friends"! Dang!!  ....He calls all his enemies "skeet", I suppose.

Yep, I'm probalbly just like you, I hate to have some DIPS### mechanic or some young greenhorn that doesn't know jack about a vehicle work on my truck.

Along time ago when I worked at Montgomery (Monkey)Wards Auto Center, I used to have to train all sorts of people both smart and STUPID to put on new tires, fix flats, and to do some other easy stuff.

I had one guy that tryed to put the wheels on backwards ( the backside of the wheel facing out), then one day some idiot didn't tighten up the lug nuts tight enough. The people got in their car and left and turned onto an exit ramp and one of the wheels came off.

I would trust my brother in-law to mount and balance my tires for me, but I would install them myself.

If you are thinking of becoming a (halfback), what state do you think you would move to? I have friends in Thomasville, NC. that I haven't seen for a long time but I do call them at least once a month.

Well, I've been on this forum for too dam long, I think its time to get off of it and fix myself a Sailor Jerry Rum & Coke.

I had to come back and edit a word because I spelled it wrong,I must have ( CHEVY ON THE BRAIN)!!

If you hate Ford so much then go back to Chevy and that goes for anyone whether you drive Ford,Chevy,Dodge or any of the imports.

If Ford is so great, why are they getting ready to close down two plants and offer buyouts to 75,000 employee's just to get them to retire early? This is because FORD SUCKS. They need to change their logo to ( At Ford Quality Is Not Going To Happen At Any Given Time). This is what they get for building junk vehicles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reason why I typed this in red, is because this is Fords future unless they start building better quality vehicles!!!!!!!!!!!!

( Ford, The First Vehicle, And The Worst Vehicle )

Come on Ford, get with the program!!!!!
