What is it you like about the Toyota? Is it stronger on the trail or is it a better daily driver?

I have a 1988 Ford f250 and I have over 200,000 miles on it and still runs like new. You just have to take care of it.

I agree that maintenance and and keeping on top of things ( or under them in the case of 4X4's ) is half the battle. Most problems that happen out on the road, or trails are preventable with a little foresight. Rock crawling is another matter altogether. More luck and skill involved in that line of work / fun. Any brand, whether it be Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Toyota, etc... , can be completely reliable if you keep on top of the maintenance, and replace parts before they fail out in the real world. Certain parts on certain trucks just seem to last a lot longer without replacing - as they do on the older Chevy trucks, in my opinion, that's why there are still so many of them out there.
I guess I'm just more concious of maintenace than the average Joe because of my other hobby - off shore fishing. I could only afford a boat with one engine ( GM-350 ), so I had to make sure it was in running conditions and wouldn't fail me when I needed it most - say about 26 miles out, the sun is starting to go down, and the wind is picking up, or the same distance out in a 30 knot wind with 5-6 foot seas from the Northeast in the winter-time. You could be in a world 'o hurt in some of these conditions if something fails unexpectedly. My fishing buddy used to call me 'Mr. Maintenance'.

Good thing that you are smart fellow Redbeast.
Just think of all of the bad *** that could happen out in the open seas if you had a Ferd V-8 in your boat. HAHA, HAHA

I would not chance it dude! I had a neighbor with a 351 in his boat. It saw more yard time than sea time. Finally just sold it.
There's a reason you say sooo many Fords out there with Chevy Power. A bastardization in my book, but it says a lot about Chevy Engines overall. The Ford 9-inch axles are bulletproof however. I always give credit where it's due.
