so what u r saying is that there is no skill in mud bogging... i would like to oppose... if u hit a deep hole u might be goin less than 3 mph but u have to know what to do in the drivers seat to overcome the obsticale.....i give rock crawling its props it takes skill but so does every other off road event..

i wouldnt try to be rude either but as u stated Petersons's 4wheel and Offroad whis means 4 wheel drive and everything else that goes offroad... i used to have a 2 wheel drive and i went places that most were scared to take 4x4s so it doesnt matter what wheel drive it is it is still capable to be in the mag....

I will agree! This last issue sure looks alot closer to what I used to see out of this magazine. I've seen enough $100,000.00 rides I'll never have. I say let's do our part in cleaning the earth by digging out of the scrap yard and putting otherwise dead parts to good use. If I had tried to buy everything for my truck new , I'd probably have more invested in it than my house. Beside the fact I have a lot more fun snooping around for parts and we will take off in a truck for a day and go part hunting for miles and feel better when we find that "gold mine" that was given to use just for getting it out of their way or something. You could never have that much fun simply ordering from a catalog. Granted there are some parts I will only have new on my truck and this is where the magazine comes in... to let everyone know what parts are good to find and what you really need to purchase new and that fine line in between, Tech tips on how to recondition your found parts, what parts you can convert from the convenience of your own garage and so on. If She Don't Get Dirty, She Ain't Worth Playin' With!

This reply is for those at the rag. Petersons 4 wheel and offroad is simply the best 4x4 rag out there, but don't let it go to your heads. Some rags know their the best and say they will do what they want and screw the readers, simply because the other rags are so terrible, that it makes them the best by default.
I think you will find that most people aren't terribly interested in the monthyl event coverage that can last many many MANY pages, and are a waste of space. How does it really benefit the reader? Sure it's interesting sometimes and even entertaining, but thats now why people buy the rag. People like to see what other guys are doing with their trucks. Most of the readers aren't loaded, but most of your feature trucks the owners are more then quite well off, they are loaded, with a seemingly unlimited supply of disposable income, or an endless credit limit.
The other problem I see, is too many of Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Toyota, and Jeep. Don't get me wrong we all love to see this rigs, I am a Chevy fanatic myself. While I hate toyota with a passion, and Jeeps are annoying to drive, I still enjoy the features on these vehicles. Too many great wheelers are overlooked. Early 80's Datsuns for instance. Sure they ain't good rock crawlers, but are good wheelers. They always did well in Baja, and the ones still being raced now do very well, and the modifications are almost entirely to the engine, and hardly anything to the suspension. I drive an 82 Datsun, with as much li8ft as i can stuff in it right now, and it sits on 33x12.5 muddies. The first outing with the 4x4 club I belong to which accepts any 4x4 rig, I kept up with all the biggest and baddest rigs, and mine was one of three rigs (out of well over 50 rigs) that didn't haev a single problem that day. Not one. The only problems I've had with my truck are having to replace the fuel pump and the water pump(aside from some redneck tire clearancing, and some wires coming loose from the stereo I put in). The truck also had a new wiring harness put in just before I bought it. 1/4 million miles on this thing and most of it is original. Some mild engine mods, but most of it is how it came from the factory. Including original water in the engine(that was nasty) when I bought it.
I realize the popular trucks seem to be only thing that matters, because thats what majority of people own, hence them being popular, but you are really alienating alot of readers and potential readers by portraying ONLY the popular stuff. I say once an issue go for something that isn't mainstream. Throw a couple of old Datsuns into the mix, throw an old willy's or two in there as well. Use one obscure rig a month, who cares if the pictures aren't the most perfect, we don't care. But mix it up a bit please, all I see are the same trucks over and over, judt different colors, and different brands of lifts under them. The latest issue with the junkyard stuff was a good start, but it was somehwat lacking, and it looked like you just hurried through it so you could hit up the more expensive stuff that to you is more fun. We can tell where your priorities lie, but it is us that make your rag, keep alienating us and we'll quit buying, and then you'll be out of a job and have no more fancy expensive rigs to play with.

I was very pleased to see the 98 Trooper included in your picks. I was also glad to see the 06 Rubicon Unlimited since I just bought one two weeks ago and had to beg my wife to let me keep my 98 Trooper. The Trooper has been overlooked for a long time. I have wheeled mine since new and the only mods I have made are a K&N and a set of Ranchos. Now that I have two on the list I will be looking for that 97 Defender 90 next.

I would like to see more nissan TITAN's and alot more after market parts and performance parts. I'd love to see some MSD, MALLORY, CRANE. H-ll man these trucks need a REV limiter. With 90% of full power at 2000 RPM and 80% at 1000 RPM it would be nice to have. Above all some good traction devise's like the old TRAIL MASTER traction lifts they worked forward and backwards. I have the mallory ignitions on both my 69nova and 73 camaro their sweet with 2stage limiters start retard and timeing retard thats great when your not at the strip you can back down 4-5 degrees when cruzing and save some $high high$ dollar 100+ octane between that and NOS can't stand to much of that. realy would like to see more Xterra's flexing some PRIDE!! a old (INTERNATIONAL and the new bad boy) H--ll it don't matter i like them all. just stay out of the rocks a little here and their and put some after market parts for somthing besides the TOP 5 and i will start looking at it again...

I know this is not a magazine for any particuliar brand. But alot of readers need to see some simple motor tech articles. Like on a yota how to change the timing belt or adjust the valves. On a chevy how to adjust timing or adjust valves. I have never had a jeep and sure jp does an ok job but sure some would like a few maintenance tips on those too. A one or two page article giving an electricial tip of the month. I know odd ball 4bys are hard to find in the office and ya'll have some in thier from time to time. Keep it up. Just keep a big variety of wheeling instead of rocks. Like someone else said a little more in depth reader rigs would be nice. For instance when you go to a trail event pick about 5 and do a half page for it like you would for the adventure rigs. Off course those with homemade ingenuity. You go enough places and evnts to get a good collection. '73 chevy stepside 350/3on the tree/205/44-12/35's

I have been a subrscriber for 15 years or more. I really enjoy most of the mag. My favorites are the nuts and bolts, letters and readers rides. I am somewhat mistified that you write about lifts and larger tires, re-gearing, but don't mention much about brake upgrades. How about something on older xj brakes? I know the brakes on my 88 xj suck even before the 3 inch and 31's.

When are readers going to see and read about the Petersen's 4 Wheel & Offroad K5 project truck? I'd notice a small taste of it from the ORD web site.
