In a sea of the norm, I hope to find in my future issues of 4WHEEL & OFF-ROAD something like if I were to throw a rock down Main Street U.S.A. it would not "bounce off" four or five cookie cutter 4x4's.  I really enjoy the unique and different.  Pleasing the masses should include a regular dose of change, not what they look at and/or work on day in and day out.

I am the owner/builder of a "SUPER SIZE"(formerly full size), vehicle that from day one was built to be very rugged, useable and unique.

Your magazine covers all of the popular and up and coming trendy 4x4's very well, but lets face it, most of us spend so much time and money on our vehicles, (aside from capability and durability), striving to be unique and different.

yotd1976 "here is my idea

we all know that a jeep sized 4x4 is the most practicle trail vehicle, just once think out side the box and get the longest truck to wheel in and make it a prerequsite for all the other people that joins UA 06' to follow

since full sized, four doors, diesel truck are becoming more popular, why not do one of those truck.

they come stock w/ dana 60 front and rear or similar, got a bad a** motor in it, lot of room to carry everything needed to go camping, plus you can sleep in the cab. the only bad thing it that it's just to long.

just find a mid 90's diesel Ford F350 crewcab longbed as your project truck and don't bob anything."

Remember the Super Duty? wasnt that a UA truck? or was that a sister rag?

I think an H2 or H3 would be cool no bling just go. Or even an older fsj like a wagoner or a cherokee.

Scratch my first idea.  Here's one for you.  For cheap truck challange you took beaters through somewhat easy trails(easy compared to ones you see in UA).  Take an older vehicle(codename rustbucket) and put a price cap on how much you are going to spend on mods.  Spend enough to where it would be a reality for most of your readers to someday build it.  My suggestion Jeep CJ with 304ci, run stock axles, spring over, 35s or something close and find one with a body more beat up that Tim Hardy's Sami.

Guys guys come on! lets keep the "rustbuckets" in the cheap truck challange section. For the ultimate adventure lets build the ultimate truck! something with distinction and class. my vote is for a Land rover

How about an 06' Dodge powerwagon?? Put 35s on it and build a cage in it to make it legal for the trip and lets see just how well built it really is!!! Just keep the rest of it stock.

yes they did build that truck for the UA and took it where it will have a hard time fitting, thus breaking alot of parts, getting alot of body damage, and so on........

so they built a jeep, a big ford, a tacoma, and a chevy. if any it should be a dodge truck, so that the big three is covered.

if they build a big truck, just get it as big as the come. with 4 real functional doors and an 8 ft bed, if a dually comes into play then why not.

i know everyone that wheels would like to have the least amount damage done to them on the trail and then you get the hardcore/extreme crowd that say, " if you didn't break anything you are not pushing your truck to its limits!!". parts cost money, something we all have a shortage of.

what i don't want to see/ read about is a bunch of pipe buggies on some narrow trail, using the right pedal to over come all the obsticles and unnessary body/truck damage.

what i would like to see/ read about in this year UA 06 15-20 no body chopping/ bobbing fullsized, four door, long bed trucks on 35 or 37 in. tires. carring all their gear for the entire trip in the truck w/ a min load of 1,000 lbs of gear. not staying in any hotels/motels strickly campsites w/ running water. and the hardest thing of all the least amount of carnage to the truck i.e; all doors must work every single day of the trip, no climbing in thru the window.

Hey Fred,

I think you should do a late 90's ZR2 Blazer. That would be awesome. Run a 4 door[wheel base] and some 37 0r 39 inch krawlers. Get one with a 4.3 in it. Run the 4.3 and some d60's. Maybe an exo cage too. It would look awesome.

Since narrower w.b. seems to be better for what you guys usually do, how 'bout a Colorado thats been totally redone. yank the p.o.s motor & tranny, and drop a small block V-8 (4.8 or 5.3 w/5spd would be great), then do the magic that you normally do on the suspension. That's assuming that you do a new truck this time.

dude
you gota go extreme
im talkin 6X6... but not the usuall 2 rear diffs
2 front diffs 4 wheel steering use a left hand drop case and high pinion for one and a right hand drop low pinion for the other
hell while your at it add another diff in the rear and make it
an 8X8
power can come from a 24 valve cummins an allison auto and a
gear redution unit of your choice and put a duel rear output np205
or atlas together and slinky over all that gets in your way.
oh and keep the wheelbase within a extracab long box total
length and youd have great aproach departure and breakover angles.
add airbags to the suspention and you can lift/plant axles to pick your way over just about anything.
anyways thats my 2cents worth
whatever you do have fun with it!

Hammer down... the throttle is just an on/off switch!

I agree! Please! No tube-buggies or Jeeps! There are plenty of other mags out there that cover these types of 4X4 vehicles. Chevy, Ford, Power Wagon, or 'old metal'. An H1 build would be wicked too! but please no H2 or H3's! There are plenty of 'bling' mags out there too for H2's and Escalades! There's just no need to "pimp our rides' - Pimped out 4X4 is just wrong!!!  Keep up the great work guys!!

I see a lot of questions about various S-10 builds. What do you think of an S-truck for the UA. Don't make it a budget truck (but please stay on Earth) show us what you can do with an S-truck.

How crazy can they get? Four link suspension, a V-8, 1 ton axles and a roll cage. Make a winch bumper and throw some 35" tires on it.

Don't get me wrong, I still would rather see old iron. But lots of readers could learn from an S-truck build up.
