The noise cancelling mikes are a great idea no matter what you are driving,   im running a cobra 29 that has been peaked and tuned at the local cb shop, im running a 6 ft "ugly stick" and im reaching out about 20 or so miles in southern indiana.  so far my antenna has eaten about two dozen drive through roofs and low hanging branches and hasent broken yet.  it is not hung with springs the springs made the antenna bounce and hit the cab all of the time it was really driving me nuts.

I went into Wal-Mart the other day to check out the prices on there CB radio's. Unless they were out of the other good ones, the only one that they had was a compact Midland model for $35.00 . I thought of buying this one because it is small and I don't have much space to mount a fullsize unit much less this one.

This might be a good choice for me because I only would be using it to talk to my friends when wheeling and to talk to them when we take are trips to the mountains. This CB would only be used to talk to them at a close range.

For my needs, do any of you think I should buy this unit?

I drive a 2004 Dodge Ram Diesel.  I run a Cobra WX that has been tuned by Rhodes CB shop in Effingham.  A Wilson 5000 roof mount antenna, and a noice cancel mike.  Our company won't let us have CB's in the trucks, saying "it attracts to much attention" to the trucks.  Rhodes told me the exact same thing you stated.  Be careful about buying a tuned CB, or what CB you buy to tune.  I hope the person who started this will have good luck in his choices.

go get yourself an RCI 2950, take it to a CB shop and have it modified till its got atleast 5 external mini switches hanging from the side of it and get it over with. Cuz once you buy a radio and start modifying it, you'll always want it bigger and badder ...just like the 4x4 trucks.

Uniden makes a great affordable little radio, the 510XL Pro, for less that $50.  The Cobra 19 DX is also a good radio in that price range.  When buying a CB, make sure to get the best antenna you can afford and spend what's left over on the radio.  Your performance is 90% dependent upon the quality and installation of your antenna....
