A pro for IFS, any except for maybe my toyota, is the turning radius.  Two good axles are useless on a trail if you can't turn the corner.  The newer trucks with coils on the solid axles are much better but IFS still wins that one.

Well personally i think any of the honda trucks and suvs are worthless offroad, they all have independant front and rear suspension. I also think the gm trucks come with 2 small of tires stock especially the 2500 and 3500's.  As far as ifs being crap, i think in stock form they have some weakness but like a solid axle they can be made stronger.  The baja trucks use ifs because of the control at speed over rough terrain, and its not as hard on the drivers.  They have an advantage over the stock ifs because of the wider track width which reduces the angle on the cv joints and allows longer travel without stressing the cv's and breaking them. Its been mentioned before but u can rebuild an ifs easier then a solid axle in the pits. Another thing i have noticed about ifs is there is more ground clearance in the center of the truck due to the front diff being sucked up into the body, unlike the solid axles with the pumpkin hanging down.  I like my solid axle and wouldnt trade it for ifs because i like my rough truck ride instead of feeling like im rideing in a car.

i don't care aboutride but i still think ifs is a plus i would think not having a huge hoghead in the front solves cleaence problems and i have 3 trucks 2 with ifs and 1 with str. axle and i have to say for going ifs is the winner and relibility str. axle but ifs is also cheaper to fix than str. axle so perks to both sides

And as for the worst 4x4 ever i have to give that to underpowered foriegn trucks (cough cough toyota) yes they go well when they are goin but once they are stuck u are done and when you need that extra power in that mucky mud to spin your tires to clean them out u are screwed and this is experience the only thing that makes them so good is their weight factor so dont get mad this is true id take a s10 any day

I love GM's.  My 1994 K2500 could tkae lots of abuse, I've rarely got one stuck and they ride nice on grass clumps.  The new ones are too rough though, a little too heavy for off roading.  

I don't know about IFS I plowed my truck into a washout so hard the fenders went back into the door and it had no effect on the axles, though I have seen the frame get cracks from time to time. I did breat the Front Axle on a 1981 K2500 going 60 mph over down a backroad and launching over a hill.

The new Tundra's have a 350 that has more power then a GM 366 (new ones are actually 364).

I have a 94 F150 with the D44 IFS under the front and it has a  smoth ride on and off road.

Actually you have a Ford with a TTB swing axle front end. It is nothing more than a D44 with a hinge in middle of it and swing axle not IFS.

Some call it that (IFS) but it is not. IFS will have two control arms or a strut and a control arm for each wheel and will allow wheel to articulate while maintaining a more constant camber angle and tread track width. A TTB cannot do this because it pivots on a hinge in the center of axle.

Its the one that you have, and dont know how to use properly.
Yea a lot of you can move the floor shift, turn a dial and go forth.
but,
are you using it to the fullest of its present potential? or do ya just mash the gas and hope for the best?
do you know the limits of its potential?
do you know how far you can go before your pumpkins cause the forward motion to stop
or high center? or drag the rear plowing ground,quick which side is your pumpkin on in the front,are ya lifted in an ifs, do ya have a skid plate on your aluminum diff? can you "see" where its at when you wheel
enough of 4 wheelin 101, go fourth and wheel like ya know how

It is not a good front end to lift and it is know to eat tires when you lift it because of the axles design. (it changes camber and track width as it articulates and "erases" the tires)

Whats with all the Z hating? I have a Z71 which is stock except for the tires and it is better off-road than Dodge 1500's and as good as F150's. Why is it that the Chevy/GM got all this negativity for IFS... What about Toyota? And Ford and Dodge 1/2 tons are IFS. What about the new Tundra? I went 'wheeling with one and it sucked. Couldn't keep any traction (on BFG Mud Terrains).

There is nothing inherently wrong with GM IFS. Left reasonably stock it will take a terrible beating and survive. It is when you lift them way up and put big tires on them (particularly 1/2 ton models) that you start pushing envelope and problems can develop. Solid axles are popular because they are easy to lift and upgrade to stronger axles.
