I found a 1973 F-350 Crew cab 2wd in very nice shape, but it is 2wd and looking for advice on converting to a 4x4.The F-350 has coil spring set up front.I was thinking of using a '77 250 donor 4x4 that has a leaf spring set up.Thus gutting the original coils and welding in spring perch's.But would say a F-150 with the coils be a better swap and or easier? Anyone done a swap like this? I here most older crew cabs you see now days started as 2wd and were converted-just need to find someone thats already done their homework and help me out here!!

The 77 250 would defiantly be the best donor. Forget the 150, you can't use 150 Traction Beams on the 350, they just don't work.
So, grab the axle, springs, hangers. transfercase, transmission, driveshafts, linkages, EVERYTHING 4wd from the 77 and go to town.
Be sure and let us know how it goes if you do do this swap!

Still fishin here, I had another fellow tell me the original F-350 with the coil spring set up wasn't designed to withstand the extra torque of a leaf spring set up. I thought jeepers its a F-350 frame!I would think I could swap a set of springs in the front and be ok.Any thoughts?

After thought- when these things were built didn't they use the same frame setup for 2wd or 4wd?
