i have 1996 chevy 1500 4x4 im installing a 6 inch suspension im need some advice to unload the torsion bars i have a 2 jaw gear puller but its slipping of the lips on the cross member i know they make a torsion bar tool but i dnt wanna buy a tool to only use once any other ideals??

Place a jack under the lower arm, raise it up, remove the upper arm, then remove the knuckle, then lower the arm down. It should have enough ranger of movement to take the tension off the t-bar. This is how I did my Ranger and it worked great.

I have used a large heavy duty c- clamp with floating plate removed from threaded shaft and then used a steel bar across the top of the cross member to keep the clamp level and straight.
