I need to find a lift for my truck! 94 ranger 4x4, 4.0, auto, STX model (means it's got a 1.5'' factory lift). Anyhow, I've been looking into every brand. I want some of your opinions on what I should get. The truck will be my everyday driver, and will only be wheeled on trails and sand dunes, no mud. I've heard that drop brackets for the front axle that relocate the stock ones can put a hole in my front diff. I've been looking into BDS and tough country, because of their price...but I'm willing to spend the $ on skyjacker for their radius arms....I want to fit 33's on it, and currently have 31's. But, a 4'' lift will give me a total of only 2.5'', since the factory 1.5'' must be removed (4''-1.5''=2.5'') any input would help... thanks, Chris |

OK, I'll chip in, I figure all the Ford guys would come to your rescue, but as usual, it's a Chevy driver that lends a hand to a stuck Ford.
That should get a few more responses for you!
Here's my 2 cents, the longer radius arms the better. The longer radius arms will improve suspension travel and let the front end flex more. Stay away from the kits that reuse the stock arms and just use drop brackets, suspension travel will suck and a big ol' honkin' cross member hanging down will get caught on everything. Out of the three you listed I would go with the Skyjacker long arm kit, I think you can get Sky-King coil-over shocks with it too if you have the $$ (or just upgrade later). Check Fabtech, they have a lot of Ford kits too. Rangers make great pre-runner trucks and the Skyjacker kit would be perfect for that. As for the drop brackets damaging your front diff, the front diff shouldn't hit anything, if it does, it's due to some serious air and no bump stops. A properly engineered and set up suspension lift shouldn't have any problems. As for the 4" -1.5"=2.5"lift , you'll still be 4 inches taller than a stock Ranger, or get a 6" kit if you want to be bigger than the STX. If you have 4.10 gears 33's should be OK, but you will notice a slight decrease in acceleration and cruising up hills will suffer. Next on your list should be lower gears and a rear locker...
How's that? Good luck

I had a '97 ranger that I had installed a 6" lift on from Black Diamond. I think I heard they went out of business. Just wanted to say it had the drop radius brackets on it and all the jeep guys from our club couldn't believe how this thing flexed. I was only a weekend warrior at the time but never had any problems with the arms catching anything. Just remember to get the exteneded brake lines. I tried to extend the stock ones but the jeep I hit didn't think that was the best idea after mine tore.

How am I an ass? Because I went with something other than what was suggested? Black diamond is gone...and for the money skyjacker wasn't a whole lot more. Your the dumbsh!t here, look at when my first post was and then look at the last...they're a month apart. This wasn't the only board that I posted it on, and to tell you the truth I only got a few actual experienced reply's here. Not to mention the fact that you had no info input at all...moron
