yea, i'm wanting to put 315/75/R16's on my '93 chevy K1500. how much lift do i need to clear them? they come out to be 34.6" tires, and i can fit 33's [285's] stock. so would a 3" lift do it? or could i get away with like a 2"? i don't want to cut sheet metal, because it's still in great shape, and i don't want to screw with my drive train geometry too much. and no body lifts either. also, what gears would i need to bring it back to stock? i was thinking 3.73's or 4.10's. thanks.

From everything i have read, 6" susp is ideal for 35........a 4" would be tight. 2-3" IFS lifts really offer no difference in tire clearance for our trucks. I was looking at one, and the manufacturer said i could fit 285/75/16.....well u and i both know that they fit stock.

a 285/75/16 tire is actually more comparable to a 32" tire...a 295/75/16 is closer to a 33". I have seen 33x9.5 on our trucks with no lift, but 32x11.5 seems to be a tight fit. Wheel backspacing becomes extremely important when fitting the biggest tires possible on minimal lift.

On www.truckworld.com there is a chevy reader's rides section with over 1000pics of our trucks and descriptions of tire sizes lifts, etc. Looking at that gives you a good idea on how your truck will compare when finished.

Goodluck.

ok, thanks. i would like to do as little as possible for a lift. 35's are about the biggest i want to go for now. i'm running stock rims, and would like to continue to do so [i like the looks of mine]. if i have to, i can make bolt on spacers. i'm working at a welding shop right now, so conning my boss into showing me how to use the lathe/milling machine shouldn't be too hard. thanks for the site too, i think i'll be there for quite a while looking at pics.

I AM BUYING NEW TIRES FOR MY TRUCK 94 GMC Z.  I WANT TO GET RID OF THE 16" WHEELS AND BUY 15'S.  EVERYPLACE I HAVE CHECKED SAYS TO RUN 31 X 10.5'S BUT I DON'T WANT TO GO DOWN IN SIZE FROM THE STOCK 265/75 16'S.  I AM THINKING ABOUT 32 X 11.5 15'S. YOU  SAY THEY ARE TIGHT. WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU MEAN & WILL THEY WORK.

THANKS A LOT

32x11.5x15 will work, just make shure you choose a rim with different backspacing options. The wheel shop will be able to pick the proper backspacing to ensure enough clearance when you turn full lock. You may have to trim the platic bumper skirt just the slightest bit.

a 265x75x16 tire measures 31.6x7.8 mathematically. In real life they are more like 31x7. A 31x10.50 will look bigger on your truck than a 265/75/16 due to the added width and the unnoticeable difference in height.

If cost is a concern a 31x10.5 is a better choice as they are much less expensive than 32x11.5......if you want the biggest that will fit, go with a 32x11.5...I have seen k1500 running 33x9.5x15 BFG A/T's on the stock rims with no lift, but i think that would be really tight.
