Ball joint dilema

I've got a '95 Chevy Cheyenne 3/4 ton 4x4 that needs lower ball joints. The manual that I have (Haynes) says to drill out the rivets, but only the upper joints have the rivets. How do I get the lower ones out? Do I need to remove the lower control arm and have the joint pressed out and the new ones pressed back in? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I replaced the upper and lower balljoints on my 92 k1500. The bottoms were bolted in, indicating they had been replaced once already. The tops were riveted and the new balljoint came with bolts to replace the rivets. As your truck is a 3/4ton the lower balljoint mounting method could potentially be different than that of my 1/2ton.

Look at the new lower balljoint and see if it comes with any hardware to mount it. Other than that, talk to a mechanic that sees lots of 88-98 chev trucks and find out "how to".....You can always talk to a tech at the GM dealership too, quite often they quite willing to tell you how to do it yourself.

Goodluck.

they might be normal press ins get an air powered pickle bar and start hammering away ,it might come out easy (not) it usually takes some time and seing how yer that far do the uppers to, but grind the rivets off ive had better luck that way, the new ones for the uppers will be bolt in so use lock tite and torque to spec. nows a good time to replace everything that needs to be done. its worth the money to get good parts too. just for thought
