I just bought a 1988 Toyota 4x4. the only problem I'm having is when the truck is cold it cranks and runs fine, when I stop and turn it off and wait a few minutes and crank it back up it smokes like train. The temp guage is not getting hot and it has'nt used any oil. There's no water in the oil and the radiator is full. One guy told me I might have a cracked head or a blown head gasket. It's not skipping any.I'm new to the 4x4 world and this the first toyota I've owned.Any help would be appreciated very much.Thank you so very much.

Could be that your injectors are dirty and leaking when you shut the engine off.  Then when you restart it the rich mixture would make it smoke for a few seconds.   Where if it has been off for a while the gas will have vaporized and escaped out of whichever valves are open on each cylinder.

If it is lasting longer than about 10 seconds I'm not sure what is wrong.

What color is the smoke? Standard rule of thumb is,white smoke water, blue smoke oil, black smoke rich on gas, exception to rule with auto transmission blue could be trans fluid. [going thru vacum line]
