I have a 1991 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban.  I bought some 17x8.5 Hummer wheels for it and want to put the stock 315-70-17 tires on it.  Can I get away with a two inch lift on it?  If I have to go with the 4 inch kit will I have to change the driveshafts?  Are there any other modifications that will have to be made?  Thanks in advance.

Is a 91 suburban the old body style with a dana 44 or 10 bolt front  axle?

Yes it is the last year of the old body style.  It looks like a 10 bolt but I'm not sure what a Dana 44 looks like.

I had a 4" lift on my 84 burban, and there was no need to change driveshafts. My 4" didnt really clear the 35's all that well, I had to sledgehammer the inner fenderwell a bit and trim off the corners of the outer fender.

A 2" probably wont do it, as your 315/70/17 measure 34.4x12.4x17 (which in real life is as close as any 35x12.5 tire is to actually being 35x12.5).

A four will probably be a little tight like mine was, but trimming the fenders is easy and looks fine if you take your time.

with a 4" lift, you can get by with the factory steering system (mine was fine) but with a 6" you will have to get steering correction components, and you may require driveshaft changes, but a 6" will clear 35's perfectly.

Good luck.

I think I'll go with the 4" and do the trimmin'.  Thanks for the help.

Check the offset on the Hummer wheels, that might casue fitment problems, I'm not sure though, I know they have a weird offset.  As for the lift and driveshfts, I have a 6" lift of a 1995 K1500 ext Cab pick up and my driveshafts is length is fine.
