i have a 1989 jeep wrangler. has spring over axle, 3in body lift and 6in drop shakles in rear. i'm running 36in swampers on it. has a 4.2 straight 6. it's a weekend bogger and rock crawler and sometimes driven around town. i want to remove the stock rear ends (dana 35 rear and 30 front) and put in dana 44's out of a '73 scout. i was wondering what type of lockers i should go with (front & rear) and what type of axles and gearing i should run. i'm on a tight budget but i'll pay for something as long as it's gonna hold up very good. the lockers i've been looking at have been arb air lockers, ox lockers, and detroit lockers. cn someone please help me decide???

Well, I own a 79 Scout and have a Detroit in the rear. I absolutely love it. I think the D44's should be adequate for your Jeep, just don't beat on them. 35's are the max recommended tire size unless you use aftermarket shafts and or u-joints. I wouldn't use the ARB because it has an internal o-ring that can blow out over time. This means that you'ld have to tear apart your diff just to replace that o-ring. The ox locker or the detroit would be my choice.

i've heard that ox is out of biz, i've heard they're still in biz, i've heard you can still get them because they're liquidating their inventory through a distributor for 4wp. i'm very confused. i would check into it before buying from oxtrax. it would suck not being able to get parts for it when things start to wear out or break. if anyone knows the real status of oxtrax, please let me know.
