I recently encountered a problem i never been in before... i drive a 92 civic and its completely stock with a cold air intake... YES ITS STOCK... the other day i was driving on the freeway, and when i shifted to 3rd the was struggling to pick up speed, then when i shifted to 4th then car shut off on me and white smoke started to come from my exhaust... then when i pulled over i seen some oil leaks from the bottom of my car, some guy told me it could be my head gasket thats broken, but i would like a second opinion!!!... if any one know whats wrong with my car, and can give me any info on whats wrong withit before i take it to the shop would be appreciated....Thanks!!!

yeah, white smoke usually means either a blown head gasket or a cracked head, you need to pull the head off and find out right away. I'd watch out though, this is a 4x4 forum and most people would be pretty offended that you're asking about a honda here.......

in my opinion it would be the head gasket or a cracked headalot of times coused by over powering the engine running at high rpm shifting or your timing might have slipped cousing a bent valve to crack the head.. good way to check though is to check to see if there is moisture in the motor oil depending where the gasket blew or cracked the head you can tell by the white stuff in your oil. best bet though is sell it and get a 4x4.....

the late model civic that you drive is notorious for blowing the head gasket in between cylinder number 2 and cyl. 3. but you failed to give some much needed info... did it get hot? lose coolant? the white smoke is a tell tale sign of burning coolant. but other #### is known to happen. give more info. and we'll talk. |

I think I know what's wrong. You might need an 8" lift kit and some 33-12.5x 15 mud tires on that Civic. Then your motor won't crap out on you. (kidding) I agree with what other guys say about it being a cylinder head problem. This is an off-road forum though... does your Civic have a LIFT KIT???
