l have a 2002 silverodro 1500 4door. When i put in 4wd it makes a rubbing noise (not a metal on metal grinding noise) my u-joint have on signs of wear on them and being under warranty i took it back to the dealership. they said this year of truck has a new ( or different) 4wd system then resent years and will make that kind of noise. my reply was that it didn't make this noies before. his reply was "basiclly it does make that noise and there is nothing we can do about it."
To add to my problem i am putting on a 4" lift. when i went to the 4x4 specialist to buy and install my lift his tech and i went to see if he could put me at rest and confirm what the dealer tech. said. He too thinks that it doesn't sound right and said that it could be something in the gearing or a few other thing. So i took it back to the dealer and got the same answer again.
My guestions are will this lift cancel my warranty and has anyone ever heard that this year makes such a noise?

pretty much any lift will void warenty. THere isnt much you can do to your truck that wont void your warrenty, and you have to look for little things in your warrenty that might not be covered. They'll tell u its under warrenty and do the work but then bill you as if it wasnt under warrenty. As for the noise my bud's got an 02 extended cab and his doesnt make any noise when shifting into or driving in 4x4. If you live near some bigger cities go to another chevy dealer, or go to a GMC dealer and tell the tech whats going on. IF you can bring your 4x4 shop tech with you and have him tell the dealer tech whats going on.

dealers do not like to do warranty work. they are like insurance companies. a warranty is like insurance. they are happy to take your money but when you make a claim, you just about have to sue the bastards to get the protection you already paid for.
tell the dealer to show you another one on the lot make the noise. they won't be able to. take a notepad and document whatever happens. they refuse, other truck doesn't make the noise, they make up some BS excuse, etc. ask stupid, redundant questions and take notes. they'll think you're gonna sue them and fix your truck. or, they may be right but with what you pay for a new truck, i can't imagine any noticable noises being normal. a friend of mine got ball massaged by the dealer until the warranty was up. the whole time they were saying we're gonna fix it, bring it back. warranty expired and sorry, no fix. bastards.

look in you book and get the corporate phone # and call them tell them what is happening and what the dealer is doing what the person at the other shop said and that you are a loyal chevy buyer but if something don't make you feel better you will be upset with them they will want the dealer and service people you talked tos name and when corporate calls them they will help and for the other one that was put off if the problem is there still call and tell them the story and ask for good faith work to be done. This usually does work tryit and be nice upset though to the person on the phone.

My husband has a 2002 Chevy Crew Cab 1500HD 4x4 also and his doesn't make any noise, so in my opinion, it isn't anything to do with the year model. I would go get a second opinion ,and soon, so your warranty doesn't expire before anything is done about it.
